The plain marble façade of an abandoned department store. A deep doorway with a prettily carved wooden wooden cornice (?) with an oval gap in it where the sign would have been. Possibly neon lights were once lit there.
The doorway is grimy, and there are posters, one advertisement, the other political, stuck to it, one on each side.
In the deep alcove, carefully folded sheets and blankets indicate someone sleeps here regularly. Two plastic bags hang from the door handles and two sets of shoes are arranged on the step.
It’s on Patission Ave, the axis of elegant post WWII Athenian development.

It’s the three part wooden door in a ruin from the previous photo, from the other side. Here, the door is painted cream, as is the plaster, more of which remains, showing less ochre brickwork. It’s all going moss green where it meets the floor, and there’s a weed or two. The knocked-out panel, lower right, still leans against the remaining door. Across the whole, graffiti bubble writing in black outline and pale blue, illegible to me and tagged The Queens Kids.

Inside a sunlit, roofless, ruined house, blue sky above. Two rusted narrow horizontal beams and exposed brickwork, yellow ochre at the top of the wall. Some plaster still clings, white, and a large wooden door with three leaves, pale blue paint faded takes up most of the wall. One lower panel is missing. Closer to the camera, another brick wall, mostly demolished, on the right hand side of the image. Bricks and rubble on the floor and a corner of bent aluminium panel on the left.

Part of what remains of an abandoned house, probably 20th Century interwar though perhaps earlier. A narrow wing looks out onto the street, most of the façade an elaborately gridded stained glass window, the square and rectangular panes separated by wood and made of textured glass some rinsed blue or opaque white. Many panes are broken, and the window behind crudely bricked up with red modern brick. The plaster has mostly fallen from pilaster and wall. A small terrace above is also crudely bricked as are square arches and part of a window in the main body of the house. Only part of that larger façade is in the image, and at the very top of it, a few rows of older, yellowish brick bordering what was probably a rooftop terrace.

In black and white, the skeleton of a covered porch in a ruined house. The upper part is wooden window frames, almost entirely intact but no glass. Through them, the front door, intact, and a window, with glass and shutters, looking out to emptiness, of the house proper. The lower part of the porch has panels of lathe and plaster, the plaster fallen and the horizontal lines of lathe showing. All the wood is bleached by the sun and weathered, paint stripped away by time. The whole is a composition of horizontal and vertical lines, rectangles and smaller rectangles.

The narrow courtyard would have once been open to the sky but has been roofed over in framed panes of glass in two different sizes, larger to front and not quite aligned. There’s a barred window high up in the back wall, half draped in white cloth and a dark doorway underneath. Everything is white or shadow, though this is not a black-and-white photograph. The skeleton of a large, elegant four storey building, maybe early 20th Century, seen from a narrow courtyard. To right the shell looms above, and in front and left it looms even higher, the even more skeletal framework of a fifth storey. There’s a bit of scaffolding and the fabric they use to contain rubble, a large machine in a pool of shadow in the courtyard. It looks under construction, as if the building facade will be preserved and a new interior and upper storey built.
