I'm always going to be a fan of #SPFBO despite the trauma of last year. This year, the next round submissions start in two days (January 3, 2026).

#ScribesAndMakers 7/14: Self-promotion day. Show us what you're proud of. Let's boost away.
I might be repeating myself, but it's still South Breaks almost making Finalist in SPFBOX.
It was really close, and the review I got out of it is still one of my favorite ones.
https://vaughnroycroftblog.com/2024/08/14/spfbox-3-review-south-breaks-by-hannah-steenbock/
The book is still free in all stores (if it's not, head to MY store and get it there - https://shop.hannah-steenbock.de/b/southwinds)
Over 100 SPFBO finalist books are on sale for $0.99 only (including Wolf of Withervale!). And I'm also massively discounting the audiobook—now is the time to give that a shot!

A great review for #SPFBO semifinalist The Glorious and Epic Tale of Lady Isovar!

@LuciaG You might want to check out the finalists for this year’s Indie Ink Awards on IndieStoryGeek.com. Not all are self-published but many are! There are also the previous two years of Indie Ink Awards on there, as well as the #SPSFC books and #SPFBO books. (Self published science fiction and self published fantasy, respectively).
Do you follow #SPFBO? Is your TBR ever growing because of it? If yes, this weekend you can get some of the participants' books for free or 0.99, from all the years!
And if don't follow the contest, here's your chance to discover some hidden bookish gems.

@undercarbonated @thegiddystitcher Thank you for the mention!! We have TONS of sci-fi and also fantasy from the #SPSFC and #SPFBO annual contests. In fact, as a judge this year for the SPSFC, I'm enjoying being inundated with incredible new-to-me sci-fi stories. All of them are on Indie Story Geek--I make sure of it every year.
Who was stupid enough to schedule a book giveaway the day after election day? This guy!
You can get my #SPFBO semifinalist humorous fantasy novel, The Glorious and Epic Tale of Lady Isovar, absolutely free from now until Sunday the 10th.
Grab a copy on me, and enjoy the chaotic and charming adventures of a fierce lady knight and her long-suffering squire.

A SPFBO judge reviewed Amiant Soul as "An epic fantasy without needing to be a trilogy. Every character is superbly written and I was totally invested in every one of them.... I gave this book 5 stars - I loved it to bits and I can see it being a constant reread in the future."
Unfortunately that judge wasn't the judge who had Amiant Soul in their batch, and it's out of the running.
Best of luck to all the SPFBOX books - may they each find their readers, winner or not.

Meet The Space Girls, one of the six judging teams in #SPSFC 4.

They include several returning judges from SPSFC and #SPFBO and an author whose book was a semifinalist in SPSFC 1.
After sleeping on the surprise from my SPFBOX rating, I went and set up a blog post that explains my thoughts (and elation) about South Breaks reaching this step.
https://www.hannah-steenbock.de/spfbo-2024-south-breaks-is-a-semi-finalist/
It contains links to the SPFBO set-up (Mark Lawrence's blog) and the review posted by Vaghn Roycroft that lead to the selection of South Breaks.
And yeah, I'm going to plug the book here, in case you feel like reading it. Not sorry at all.
HUGE NEWS! Wolf of Withervale got picked as a finalist for #SPFBOX! This is a BIG contest, where blogging sites review hundreds of indie books. Here is the write up from Queens Book Asylum on their selection: https://queensbookasylum.com/2024/10/17/spfbo-10-finalist-announcement/ 🌈📚 #SPFBO
Izzy and Chevson's epic adventures made it to the semifinals of #SPFBO this year, and I couldn't be more proud of them. If you're looking for a fun romp full of chivalry, honor, valor, and utter goofiness, give Lady Isovar a try!

The fearless and heroic Lady Isovar sat for a rare interview with DB Rook. If you want to know more about smiting or egotism, please check it out.

Only three and a half days left to get your copy of The Glorious and Epic Tale of Lady Isovar for only 99 cents!
Stoked to read Dave Dobson's haiku inspired by chapter one of Amiant Soul:
Deathly pub patron
gets heave ho; heaver balks; fired.
Who’s the poisoned man?
You can read all 300 of his haiku inspired by the books in this year's Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off (SPFBO 10 or SPFBOX) here: https://davedobsonbooks.com/spfbox-haiku-project
and you can get Amiant Soul here:
https://deborah.makarios.nz/amiant-soul/
and find out for yourself - who IS the poisoned man??

OK, that's a wrap on my #SPFBO #SPFBOX haiku project. I read the opening parts of all 300 entries and composed an inelegant, silly haiku about each of them. Took me a month, about 2 hours/day. I so enjoyed reading from everyone's stories. They're here:
