12/ The bottom line: Public health decisions shouldn't be based on junk science, conspiracy theories, or invented studies. Let's demand more integrity and less political manipulation in our health policy. 💯👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Who put science in isolation? 🔬 The NIH is temporarily halting funding to international research labs and hospitals. Because nothing says "fighting global diseases" like going solo, right? Thousands of vital health projects now in limbo. #GlobalHealth #SciencePolicy

Republican Senator Collins said that China is catching up with the U.S. in biomedical research, and that the U.S. should not take its hard-earned position as the “world leader in scientific research” for granted.

Her comments come at the beginning of a hearing on American biomedical research at which no Trump administration officials are testifying.

📊 New study reveals parallel citation universes in US politics! Democrats cite scientific papers 1.8x more than Republicans, while left-leaning think tanks show 5x higher citation rates. With only 5-6% overlap in referenced studies, it seems the scientific method isn't the only thing that's peer-reviewed! 🤓 #SciencePolicy #PoliticalScience

A brilliant new paper in #ResearchEvaluation 📄 compares how the UK, Norway, and Poland implemented research impact assessment - with very different results:

🇬🇧 UK built infrastructure, #REF became a strategic tool.
🇳🇴 Norway took a soft, formative approach.
🇵🇱 Poland copy-pasted, spent big - got confusion, “point-chasing” and no culture shift.

🇺🇦 A lesson Ukraine risks ignoring again.

MDPI as a corruption indicator? A new preprint shows a striking trend across Europe 🇪🇺: more MDPI papers → higher perceived corruption → lower innovation.

👉 arxiv.org/abs/2411.06282v1

It’s not that MDPI = bad. But when it dominates, it signals a broken system chasing quantity over quality.

Ukraine? 🇺🇦 Not in the study, but we see the same rise of #MDPI. We could build better. Instead, we copy the worst.

A solid collaboration between Italian and Armenian colleagues just published in #Scientometrics:

:doi: doi.org/10.1007/s11192-025-053

At first glance, the gap seems overwhelming: only 28.3% of 🇦🇲 researchers had at least one WoS-indexed publication (2017-2021), compared to 98.1% in 🇮🇹.

If we treat this not as a competition, but as a diagnostic baseline, it becomes a valuable tool. Imagine repeating this in 5 years – it could offer real insight into whether reforms are working.

🇧🇷 vs 🇳🇱 in #ResearchEvaluation? A sharp comparative study shows how Brazil’s high-stakes, performance-based model contrasts with the Netherlands’ strategic, decentralized approach.

Takeaway: Evaluation isn’t one-size-fits-all - context matters.

@wissenschaftimdialog
Thanks! Some stark contrasts in these data on German public opinion, both male/female and based on education. For example,
"Among respondents with low and medium levels of formal education, 70 per cent each consider it important for citizens to be involved in decisions about research topics. Among individuals with high levels of formal education, this figure is around 50 per cent.

The opposite trend is observed when it comes to interest in direct participation. Respondents with high formal education levels are particularly interested in actively participating in a scientific research
project (59 per cent) or taking part in a discussion format with scientists (56 per cent). In contrast, about one-third of respondents with a low level of formal education expresses interest in participating in research projects, while slightly fewer (28 per cent) are interested in taking part in discussion formats with scientists."
