Building a search engine index is a lot of work - and most of it is waiting! Luckily, once we get a solid index built, we'll be releasing it under a public-access API as well as a data export in SQL.
Does Google do that?

Mozilla Warns: Firefox Could Disappear

Waterfox, the open source browser developed by a British developer from 🇬🇧, has just released a new metasearch engine powered by Google results.
They promise it'll be an engine with no tracking, no invasive advertising, and a cleaner interface. It'll have custom themes, advanced search options and a domain block list. And no AI.
Their business model is based on contextual ads (they ask you to disable your ad blocker) and maybe a subscription-based tier that removes all ads. If they can't make money, they say they might have to rethink their approach.

Anybody know of a meta search engine that supports Google's search operator syntax, or at least something like it? I use SearXNG 99% of the time, but when a query calls for specificity, my only choice has been to, begrudgingly, go to Google so I can get busy with quotes and parantheses.
I just updated Waterfox the other day, and they mentioned their new meta search engine in the changelogs, so I took a look at it, and unlike DDG or SearX, it seems like it's less of an aggregator that pulls results from multiple sources, and more of a privacy cloak between you and your selected search engine of choice, so I was hoping that if I chose Google, it would mean I could just use that when I needed to instead of going to the source, but based on initial tests, that does not seem to be the case.
I mean it works as a Google meta search engine in general, but the returned results implied that search operators were stripped/sanitized to some extend. Well, either that, or my super-specific query failed to return results and it defaulted to a more generalized version of my query without telling me, but idrk; I didn't really do any tests to prove/disprove that theory.
@TMU_CW That would be a big step. There’s also a consortium of large research institutions working towards a European #searchengine :

Two services that can help grow your blog

Oh great, now Google Search is getting that "well, actually..." friend energy with its new AI Mode tab! 🤓
Rolling out to "a small percentage" of US users, it'll give conversational responses instead of just links. Because apparently regular search results weren't chatty enough!

There is no genuinely European #searchengine, is there? Most “alternatives” use #Google or Bing from #Microsoft in the background.
The search engine “Good”, based in #Berlin, no longer has advertising, has a low-threshold subscription and has some other positive features.
Web data does not come from Big IT, but from @brave which focuses on privacy, but also raises a few question marks (crypto commitment, seed funders)
Who knows more about #Brave?

Locked in. 🤷 #Bangs #privacy #SearchEngine #SuchMaschine
