Scenario: Web service has a #Section508 compliant interface readable by most screen readers.
Writing the help guides for how to use the site & including screenshots of the interface showing different buttons highlighted for each step in the instructions.
Is it enough for the #AltText of those screenshots to indicate it shows the button being highlighted, if the location of the button is in the page text? Or should the button location still be in the alt text?

Started my official DHS #Section508 Trusted Tester training yesterday. You get 180 days to finish. I don’t think I’ll take that long. Mostly, though, I wonder if I’ll be able to get through before the current administration pulls the plug on the certification program entirely. #a11y #accessibility

I belive that this is the first government-wide scan of USA states for web accessibility. The report averages over 34,000 state government web pages to create a meaningful snapshot of how inclusive government sites are.

Another thing I see far too often in #accessibility testing is the inappropriate use of screen readers (NVDA Speech Viewer) without actually experiencing the speech output as a real user would. Look, everyone... The trouble with #accessibility testing tools like #ANDI is that a person can end up performing accessibility testing without experiencing content as an actual #disabled user. It insulates them from using keyboard-only navigation, screen readers, screen magnification, etc. This just seems fundamentally wrong to me. #TrustedTester #DHS #Section508

In full transparency I am intending to petition #FCC to ensure that commercial equipment used on the #AmateurRadio bands is required to meet #Section508 #accessibility functional performance requirements to ensure better inclusion for #disabled #HamRadio operators. I'm willing to consider reasonable compromises, but this is a government regulated service and its long past time we do better.
