I have spent the morning in my shed on the allotment. I have been sharpening various knives I used for wood carving, pocket knives and one kitchen knife. On the whole things went pretty well. Mental focus, precise slow repetitive movements. Its mindfulness really.
This now means that the < £10 kitchen knife we bought in IKEA over 20 years ago is now the sharpest knife our kitchen. I can shave hairs off my arm with it. It takes an edge really well, far better than the MORA carving knives I was working on.
I working up the courage to attempt to properly sharpen the eye wateringly expensive set of professional kitchen knives my brother in law gave us as a wedding present 19 years ago. They are not too bad considering I have only used a steel on them in all that time. I know I can make them razor sharp too but I really, really don't want to fuck them up.
