the weather meant I found some time to progress the #guitar project... side-bending is always a little stressful - but satisfying if nothing goes horribly wrong. #amateurluthier #summerproject

Child12a declared that they want to learn Python. “Will you teach me Dad?” — “Uncle @ehmatthes will teach you, I’ll help”. #SummerProject #Python
@trey welcome aboard! Every day there are more of us 🤗
Time for me to progress Phase 2 I guess #SummerProject #Neapolitan
I think I've written the same thing enough times now.

#AmateurLuthier Saturday... my #SummerProject (steel string acoustic) progresses slowly. Doing the top bracing which has a lot of influence on the final sound of the guitar. But I'm not really 100% on exactly how. I suspect I know too much about frequency analysis and not enough about guitars as most explanations generate more questions in my mind.
Last summer's #SummerProject finished enough to play. Its a baritone so tuned down about 5 semitones. It is very difficult to resist the temptation to get stuck into Jesus and Mary Chain/Sunn O))) territory but it does sound very nice with a cleaner sound. I've not done a whammy bar before - that is also difficult to resist 😃
Once I've played it in a bit I may post some sounds. 🎸

At this rate last summer's #SummerProject will get to double as next summer's #SummerProject - none of the bits n bobs are actually attached (including neck) - don't want to rush things... obviously 😃 It's a baritone riff on a Gretsch Astro-Jet and so the strange shaped upper bout and headstock are some of the more accurate aspects (the #Sputnik inlay is perhaps less true to the original). #AmateurLuthier
@pamelafox @charliermarsh gives me something to blog about at least 😜 #SummerProject
Sneaking in some time to catchup on #SummerProject despite it being autumn (not that you’d know today with the actually glorious #WellyOnAGoodDay conditions). It’s the headstock for what will be a baritone electric… based on a goofy 50s design - Astro-Jet…
Teamwork makes the dream work. In this case, the studio project kicks into a new gear with labour nicely split between me cutting and installing weatherboards while my wife primes and fills holes. It all goes up pretty fast with the help of cladmate clamps and jolt screws.
It’s a wrap! Or at least wrapping has commenced. Frustrating that seemingly esoteric products such as this Masons Uni is unobtainium and can delay a simple build by 2 weeks.
Architect: you can buy Masons everywhere.
Everywhere: never heard of it.
Instead of installing the window and door today, I’m altering the prefab frames by adding an additional 15 studs to bring up to code. All missed by the architect and kit set supplier for reasons…
Big painful job but the best time for rework is now! It’s no wonder building projects go off the rail in NZ if building product specifics are missed by the experts.
One upside is the roof means I don’t need to slather on sunscreen (hate the stuff)
Roof shout!! Called the experts in for this to ensure no leaky repeats like its predecessor #SummerProject
The build continues but for some reason despite hours of effort, seemingly very slowly. We have finally completed all the structural tie-downs to ensure the soon to be installed roof doesn’t get blown away in the westerly ;) it’s fair to say we have Tylok’d the hell out of it!
Finally after a year long delay we have something resembling a building.
Aaaannd thanks to a team of amazing friends, we have a floor. Not the best finish but it’s level and will be finished with epoxy to suit the crafty nature of the goings on inside #DIY #Studio #SummerProject
Concrete day and the calm before the storm. Just waiting for our wonderful friends then game on!
More progress on the studio slab today and another task that “will only take two hours” but took seven. Reinforcing and insulation in.
Fufu valves well and truely broken!
Body nudging back into shape with the help of a dose of steroids. Work subsequently able to continue on the studio foundations on this spectacular Wellington day.
My wife dug and barrowed the remaining clay out to the street while I faffed with poly and levels. She drew the short straw for sure! <3
Hard fill in tomorrow and hopefully compacting that on Wednesday.
