Went on an “early morning“ (got up at 8:30 on a Sunday am I mad yes I am) walk today, using iWalk Cornwall and while the snippets of information it serves at each “stop” are interesting, they are a bit.. um… pedestrian. So. Here we go.

“This bridge is the site of the famous Pooh Sticks race between Sir Henry Smithely-Scuttlebutt (local landowner) and Lord Lloyd-George of Lymington, held in the summer of 1897.

The race is famous for its use of actual poo in place of the traditional stick. Smithely-Scuttlebutt lost the first race when his log disintegrated and sank before winning the second, but was forced to concede when unable to provide anything with which to contest the tie breaker. Lord Lloyd-George put his form down to ‘six bananas before bed last night and plenty of fibre don’tcha know’.

For fans of the sport, this was in the era before the rule permitting substitutes was added”.

#sundaywalk Today, more than 150.000 people in red clothing made a human red thread through The Hague for the Palestinians in Gaza for the second time. To indicate to our government that the red line has been crossed and that sanctions must be imposed on Israel. This is because the government keeps claiming that the red line has not yet been crossed. The demonstration went without any problems. It was sometimes playful, but also serious. There was police present, but they mainly closed off the roads where people were not allowed to go. So many people participated.
