This reminds me of #SunMicrosystems and #Cisco back in the dot.com days. While Cisco is still around, it isn't as huge as it once was. And we all know what happened to Sun. Micron/Crucial may suffer the same fate when the bubble goes "POP!"

Exactly 30 years ago today, Netscape and Sun announced JavaScript.
Originally called LiveScript, the language was renamed to JavaScript, ensuring that everyone in the industry would be thoroughly confused about its relation to Java for the next three decades.
A decision made by the marketing guys, of course, since Java was hot at the time and Sun was on board.

Originalmente, fue desarrollado por Sun Microsystems y se llamaba SunOS, basado en la versión BSD de UNIX (la de la Universidad de Berkeley). Sin embargo, a principios de los 90, Sun decidió hacer una transición importante.
En 1992, el sistema fue completamente revisado para adoptar el modelo System V de UNIX, mucho más orientado al mercado empresarial, y fue renombrado oficialmente como Solaris 2 (mientras que el núcleo siguió llamándose SunOS 5.x).
Solaris se hizo famoso por introducir características innovadoras que hoy son comunes en otros sistemas, como el sistema de archivos ZFS (Zettabyte File System) y la herramienta de diagnóstico DTrace, destacando por su excepcional escalabilidad y fiabilidad en sistemas SPARC y x86/x64. Sigue siendo desarrollado por Oracle Corporation tras adquirir Sun Microsystems.

Just a typical work setup on a typical work day.
For about 4 years I’ve had a saved search in the local classifieds app for a Sun Ultra 27 and today I was out and about and got an alert one was for sale. My jaw dropped when I saw it was in perfect condition and about 10 mins away from home. I bought it instantly! I’ll get it as soon as I’m back in Copenhagen! So excited!
Since my Ultra 24 already got modern guts, maybe I’ll leave this one stock and it can be a retro workstation.

Ich erinnere mich noch gut, dass das Pentagon #StarOffice erst eingesetzt hat, nachdem es von #SunMicrosystems übernommen worden war.
Die hätten nie die Software eines deutschen Unternehmens eingesetzt, auch wenn StarOffice damals schon einiger Zeit die einzige konkurrenzfähige Office Suite für Unix war.
Today somethin different than FreeBSD for a change (but still Unix!). Brings back so many memories from 2001-2005 when I was administering Solaris machines during my first job.
Even some commands still were in my head like zones (OS virtualization. somewhat like Jails but different isolation :)
