This lith print shows a narrow dirt road winding through a forest in winter, tightly enclosed by steep, snow-covered embankments. Bare trees rise densely on both sides, their dark, interwoven branches creating a heavy, almost claustrophobic rhythm against the pale sky.

The lith process exaggerates texture and contrast: the soil of the road appears coarse and granular, scattered with frozen mud and grit, while the surrounding shadows deepen into rough, mottled blacks. Highlights remain soft and unstable, giving the impression of cold light barely filtering through the trees.

The image carries a strong sense of isolation and passage — a primitive forest track shaped by weather and time, leading forward without revealing what lies ahead.

This #TLRTuesday photo of a lemonade stand is actually from last September's Ithaca Porchfest (which we invented, remember), but I've only just now caught up with development.

For this #TLRTuesday, I went back in time to late December 2023. When I got bored at home, I took a solo photo walk around Tempelhof. I remembered that some expired film I bought on eBay had just arrived, and I was excited to test it out.

I decided to use a Rollei Superpan 200. However, I only realized how expired it was when I got the developed negatives a few weeks later. The squares you see over the sky, the numbers, and the white dots could be the backing paper, leaving even more debris…

I like this film's accidental style, and I'm glad we have more of it.

I recently re-edited the photos now that I can process negatives a bit better and trying to follow @bosak's advice of finding the image in the shot, instead of just muted grays (thanks!), still learning and a ways to go.

#TLRTuesday has been all Black&White Mamiya today, here's a touch of color from the Rolleiflex with a lens made way before color photography was available.

Edit: as @sree pointed out color photography is older than 1935. I meant to say before it was available for this lens but that may not be true either, the first Kodachrome is a contemporary. What is true is that this lens was definitely not designed for color photography as a primary format. The more you know 🌈
