After years of running `ls` commands to figure out where a symlink was pointing, today I found out about the readlink1 command:
I found my old quotebrowser configurations!
Moving them out of the way to kick the tires on the stock install.
I think I just got deltachat-rpc-server to build and run on #OpenBSD!
I still need to do some testing, but I was able to manually import an account and send messages back and forth without anything exploding.
Thanks to some significant help from @qbit, I've got a working port of termsonic for OpenBSD!
https://git.sixfoisneuf.fr/termsonic
Here's the results of our #TechnicalJiggeryPokery over the last couple of days:
https://git.disroot.org/bsdclown/mystuff/src/branch/main/audio/termsonic
If anyone spots any issues, I'd love to fix them before submitting to ports.
After working on getting gonic running, I'm excited to get this one submitted. It means there'll be everything you need to set up your own streaming jukebox on #OpenBSD.
I figured out how to add X-Clacks-Overhead to relayd/httpd.
You can run this command to see it in action:
curl -I https://circusfreaks.org | grep X-Clacks-Overhead
Does anyone happen to know the maximum character length this sort of header can be?
After an afternoon of #TechnicalJiggeryPokery, I've got the various ones and zeroes representing our online clown work moved over to a new virtual server hosted by the ever helpful folks from @OpenBSDAms.
Like so many of my #OpenBSD experiences, the process was equal parts delightfully dull and proof that I have a lot to learn.
Enjoy the silliness over at https://circusfreaks.org, and do let me know (gently) if anything seems broken.
Currently, the clowns are packing some of their important ones and zeroes into a box. They'll be shipping them over to the lovely folks at @OpenBSDAms soon, which will bring us ever closer to the giddy excitement that comes from learning to break important things in production.
Looks like today is, at least partially, patch day for the clown computing cluster.
Beginning the upgrade to #OpenBSD v7.6
The first problem was hardware.
I bodged this until parts arrived, which have now been unbodged and properly replaced.
The second problem was DNS, or a brief lack of it.
Rebooting the modem unstuffed it and got us back online.
The third problem was permissions, which caused a minor identity crisis.
My fault, and a quick chown(8) convinced the router I was me.
With the technology trifecta satisfied, the silly animal pictures are once again flowing.
A thing I genuinely said a moment ago:
"I appear to have acquired the correct gubbin to unbodge our router."
In other computer-touching news, I've got an updated port of #gonic in the works.
Amidst the chaos and construction, our backups are quietly running in the background here at #ThisOldClownHouse.
If you need it, here's your irregular reminder that your creative work is important and worthy of extra copies.
Today's #TechnicalJiggeryPokery was a success!
I've upgraded the old #thinkpad I acquired to have more modern wifi. It's now sitting in the corner happily playing music.
The only thing that momentarily tripped me up was the driver name and mac address changing. I had do poke our network config in a few places to let it know that the stranger on the network was a friend in a new hat.
Thanks to fedifriends who helped me figure out which cordless gubbins would work inside this venerable beast.
Geeky friends, I have a #thinkpad related question:
I have a #t400 running #libreboot / #coreboot and #OpenBSD. What's the most modern/fastest wifi card it can handle?
This morning I got to have that cozy "I know my network well enough to know where the problem lives" moment, and had our network back up and slinging bits before my first cup of coffee.
The best part? It was upstream of me, and therefore not due to any terrible decisions I had made.

I did some scripting!
https://codeberg.org/socialgaff/NextStepsGen
I've taken a project management system that has been reasonably useful for me, and taken it from a dry-erase board and many file folders to a section of my vimwiki! The script is a bit of helpful automation.
..I *think* I've managed to get the concept across in the readme.. but I'll admit, I'm not sure.
Either way, I'm proud of myself, and I'm glad to have made a tool that at least I'm finding useful. And I like that I have a way to share it so that if anyone else's brain works like mine, they can take and use it however they want to.

I pulled out an old nexus 5 and installed #ubports on it today. I never got to daily drive that operating system, which is a shame because the ui is really comfortable.
It may see eventual use as a music playing gadget, and for now I'm happy it's not in a landfill.
It sank in that I've been "fancy camping" at #ThisOldClownHouse just long enough to need our backup drives up and spinning.
If you need a reminder to keep extra copies of your digital creative life, remember that I'm doing this task while living in an actual construction site run by clowns.
I finally had a moment to do some computer touching, and I got whirling.top's certs sorted out.
