It's not just Samsung S25 owners. Now owners of an iPhone from the past few years can satellite text, as well. pickr.com.au/news/2025/telstra

No mobile connection? No worries. Provided your phone has a satellite connection, you might soon be able to send a text. pickr.com.au/news/2025/telstra

Stay Connected Anywhere in Australia! Telstra has launched satellite messaging, allowing customers to send SMS from virtually anywhere in the country using the SpaceX Starlink network. Currently available on the Samsung Galaxy S25, this service is a game-changer for those in remote areas. Calls and data services are expected to follow in 2026.

What a morning! Yet again another #TelstraFail - trying to coordinate getting home from the GP, and one of the household’s phones suddenly, with no warning, is out of service.
Which left me uncertain if a text had been received, and wandering the large carpark.
The most annoying part is that there will almost certainly, as has happened the last THREE times, be a text message in two days time, alerting us to the planned maintenance outage. The mobile is through #AldiMobile, they use #Telstra, and I am really over this. #TelstraSuck

“Telstra is expecting to shrink its #workforce by 2030 with “AI #efficiencies” potentially coming through #CustomerService, software development and the use of autonomous #AIAgents, the company has told investors on Tuesday.

The telco’s chief executive, #VickiBrady, told the #Telstra’s annual #InvestorDay on Tuesday that #ArtificialIntelligence “will be a significant unlock when it comes to enabling our #workforce”.

“We will embrace AI, as every business will need to, and we expect the pace of change over the next five years to be extraordinary,”

“Ackland said the more than $1bn of capital #expenditure and operating expenditure on #software #development and #IT was another area #AI “has the potential to fundamentally change how this is done”.

Look who’s been consulting the economic tea-leaves. Will Vicki and her team be sacked if/when the plan fails?

Of course not.

Well.... that's an understatement. I've rarely seen a bigger, more complete, continent spanning utterly failure of planning and basic competency than #Telstra and the #3Gshutdown. It's been a complete and total omnifailure on every conceivable level.... technical, ethical, managerial, the list goes on.

Worst of all, it's remote and regional #Australia, where we're disproportionately poor and vulnerable, that has been left holding the bag for it all.

What the hell is this? Companies like #Telstra need to know that this sort of time-wasting bullshit interrupting my day is the quickest way to get me to hit unsubscribe and ban notifications.

“The Australian Electoral Commission is planning on using Elon Musk’s Starlink services as back up for transmitting #voting results information in the upcoming federal election.

In a contract published late last year, the #AEC appointed #Telstra responsible for the agency’s fixed line and #Starlink services until mid-2027, in a deal worth $1.38m. A spokesperson for the AEC confirmed Starlink could be used in the upcoming election for *sensitive election data*.”

The question I ask myself is why?

Has anyone else noticed some weird Telstra black spots that have appeared in the last few months? There's an odd one right at the Flinders/Elizabeth St corner; if you're on a tram you have to wait till it's moved forward a bit before it disappears. Another odd one is next to the Children's Hospital. Strange stuff.

Trust.

And the destruction of trust.

Folk used to trust their doctor, bank manager, school principal, ...

Now consumers have no trust.

Pay more for a service?
Who'd trust the corporation not to offer crap-level service and grab the increased profits.
(Gee is really considered better service?)

Remember "good corporate citizens" from 15 years ago?
And what they've shown themselves to be since?

"" has gone.
has got corporations defining us.

In other dull news, #TIO say it might be 9 weeks until the next escalation gets to my complaint to have #Telstra sort out the errors they have with my #PII so I can activate a SIM.
I have never had a personal or professional dealing with Telstra that hasn't left me scratching my head as to how such a large organization can be so consistently fucking incompetent at all touchpoints.
