There are 4 super strong guys carrying boxes and furniture at speed and I’m standing next to them feeling a bit awkward 😁 #themove

Today’s listening is ‘Message From The Country’, the 1971 album by The Move.

This, the final album from The Move, is a great listen and a fine swan-song.

By this point the band comprised just Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev ‘Basher’ Bevan.

The album was recorded at the same time as they were recording the first Electric Light Orchestra album, which was going to turn out to be a bright future for at least Jeff and Bev!

"Vocals and detectable Midlands Accent: Roy Wood"!

So the Brain DJ scarpered off yesterday, deep into the late sixties, and trudged back this morning with –

The Move, "Blackberry Way" (1968)

There's a harpsichord in the mix (!) played by Richard Tandy, who later joined ELO, but the mellotron player remains uncredited. Pay attention to Bev Bevan's drumming, too.

The Brain DJ is hiding among the sixties, where it's cooler and less humid. Bit dusty, I suspect.

The Move, "Fire Brigade" (1968)

Written by Roy Wood, founding member of The Move, who joined up with drummer Bev Bevan and a later member of The Move, Jeff Lynn, to form ELO in 1972. Essentially, The Move became ELO.

Carrying on with my tooting about The Move, I do think they are a very underappreciated band. I also think their influence on the "Birmingham Sound" and hence heavy metal in general gets quite lost. Roy Wood was a master at creating bone-crunching bass heavy riffs. And then when Jeff Lynne joined they only got even more creative. Listen to the closing outro to this song, it's remarkable.

@HailsandAles @Banur Hmmm... Being from Birmingham I don't really know where to start. So I'll go with something typically weird and madly bass heavy from the legend that is Roy Wood. #themove

Here's a new #review for a single by #Stay. "Now we are in for a treat — their new 7-inch features an immaculate and inventive cover of #TheMove’s 60s song “I Can Hear the Grass Grow,” which is a vast improvement over the original. In fact they own the song with their up tempo trippy #PopPsych approach and twelve-string guitar experimentation..." #ExposeOnline #PsychedelicRock expose.org/index.php/articles/
