I finally did it! After years of trying and failing, I finally got #thesims2 running in #Linux. The secret all along was to use #Lutris to install it. I used the "Universal DVD installer script" on their website and it worked first try! It even worked when #Steam and #Playonlinux didn't. This was the last program I needed #Windows for, so now it's time to erase the partition... once I pull up all of the mods and custom houses and characters I created over the years. https://lutris.net/games/the-sims-2/

I'm still absolutely convinced that The Sims 2 is the best game in the series, and an excellent game overall.

Yes, there's a bit of nostalgia involved, but no subsequent game in the series has evoked such positive emotions in me. In The Sims 4, creating a character and building houses is fun. But playing as the Sims is complete crap.

Yesterday, I decided to reminisce about my childhood and played The Sims 2, and I disappeared for four hours. It's incredible. I love this charming, slightly insane atmosphere

I really want to erase the last bit of #windows in my home, the Windows 10 partition in my #dualbooting desktop computer, but there are still two games I can't get to work in #linux and those are my completely legally downloaded copies of #thesims and #thesims2. I can buy the anniversary editions on Steam but that would involve giving EA more money than it deserves. Had some fun in #Sims2. I almost forgot about option to import own #pictures and let characters paint them.

I chose some of my works, these good looking as thumbnails, so they could be possibly intelligible in game scale. When I tested, about half of them worked as expected, the rest was not available. I am not sure what was the factor. Too many colour shades? File size?
My drawings are png files, mostly below 1000 px in any dimension. Most of them weight less than 1 MB. I plan to make more experiments with it.

It really hurts me to know that every year we all have less and less time for the things we love.

Even if we talk about games, before, whenever I had any difficulties, I would calmly study the game in search of a solution. Hell, I had so much free time that I found out that in Sims 2 you can fuck a sorceress in the park and she will turn you into a wizard.

Now, I only play on weekends 1-2hr. Sad.
