Time for #OffTheBacklog - it's #StevenKing 's #TheStand as an unabridged audiobook based on the 1990 "Complete & Uncut Edition". At 47 hours and 47 minutes, this audiobook is a commitment. It’s a fantastic book, and Grover Gardner’s narration is the best I’ve heard, save for the frequent mispronunciation of Nevada. (Remember, Nevada sounds like "Had Uh" not "Odd Duh"). I won't do any spoiling but I will say even if you've seen both adaptations there is plenty here for you and it's way better!

Image of the original cover of Stephen King's The Stand (1978 Doubleday hardcover edition). It depicts the novel’s central conflict between good and evil. The artwork, created by John Cayea, features two figures engaged in battle on a stark, desert-like background. One figure is dressed in white, wielding a sword, and represents the forces of good. The other figure is dark, menacing, and wields an oversized sickle reminiscent of Death’s scythe; this character is often interpreted as an embodiment of evil, possibly referencing Randall Flagg or the plague known as Captain Trips. The scene is highly stylized, almost medieval in appearance, and evokes the feel of a painting by Bosch or Bruegel, emphasizing the allegorical nature of the story’s good-versus-evil struggle. The cover’s haunting, surreal quality has made it memorable and frequently discussed among fans, who see it as a powerful visual summary of the novel’s themes

#WritersCoffeeClub 1 May: International Workers Day. Which writer’s work blazed the trail for what you write today?

Stephen King.

Perhaps 'Misery' or 'The Stand'.

"With the Insurrection Act looming, now is the time to learn how it might unfold and the strategic ways to respond — including the power of ridicule."

Scene from #TheStand (1994 version). Jailed sociology professor #GlennBateman, laughs at evil incarnate, #RandallFlagg (the Walking Dude)...

Bateman (in jail) laughs at Flagg.
Flagg: "Stop it! Stop laughing at me!"
Bateman (still laughing): "I'm sorry, but it's just that... it's just that we made such a business of you. And it turns out, you're just nothing more than another cockroach scurrying around, running little roach errands."

My #Kobo Clara has arrived! I celebrated by purchasing the ebook version of my favorite #StephenKing novel. Then I added my first self-published story from 2015—a personal take on an apocalypse, inspired by #TheStand (with monsters).

Starting this Friday, I’ll be offering my work on platforms other than Amazon for the first time. I’m still getting things ready, but 99-cent pre-orders for this story are already live on the link below for Kobo, #Smashwords, and #BarnesandNoble (among others). More stories to come!
