#AMD Reveals #Ryzen #Threadripper 9000 Family: Big #Zen5 Chips for HEDT and Workstations with 96 cores and 192 threads.
The chips have the same core counts, base clocks, and cache capacities (up to 384MB) as the prior-gen models across the range of the product stack, but the peak boost clocks have been bumped up to 5.4 GHz for all models, an increase ranging from 100 to 300 MHz. The TDP ratings also remain the same 350W for all models.

I *think* this is a dual Threadripper Motherboard. This chassis costs more than both of my cars combined if it is.

9950X has been pretty good choice for compiling complex Rust projects.

I doubt that ThreadRipper would have been worth of the price and also electricity consumption given that linking is the main bottleneck of the larger project. In single-core performance 9950X is great and I would cherish the day really when 16 physical cores would be THE bottleneck for the liking process to be honest.

E.g. for compiling Buildroot/Yocto images or similar multi-executable project you could get much more out of ThreadRipper than in my use.

@stfn yeah, apart from my server. As a software developer myself I'm looking into a threadripper system as a workstation pc. It has a huge price tag indeed, and the previous threadripper socket was already abandoned. So don't expect the same long term support for their sockets like their ryzen sockets.

If you want cheap CPUs within a server environment look at Intel Xeon systems. Especially those refurbished Xeons are a steal.

A big RIP to my venerable Zen+ #Threadripper computer who died last night of a short caused by a pci-e power cable connector coming loose, not quite connecting, and shorting into the board. Good news is that everything else appears to be working, the mobo just can’t initialise. The bad news is that means I need a new motherboard, new cpu, and new ram.

Not the best reason to be upgrading, but at least I’ll get AVX512?
