Theodora Bosanquet was Henry James' typist for his final decade. He called her his "Remington priestess." She typed the New York Edition revisions, expanding single scenes until her page-numbering reached the middle of the alphabet (8a, 8b, 8c... 8m).

After James died, she held seances where his ghost asked to resume their dictation sessions. She kept typed transcriptions of everything.

The typing continued past death.

Sophia Tolstoy copied War and Peace seven times by hand, by candlelight, after the children were asleep. The typewriter was patented the year after the novel was published.

Want to practice typing faster but don't want another cluttered, ad-heavy speed test? TypeVolt tracks WPM and accuracy in real time across words, quotes, and code snippets — all client-side, nothing uploaded. typevolt.cashewcrate.com

Explosive new game aims to teach the iPad generation to type

image via creativebloq.com

Handwriting is becoming a lost skill for many Gen Xers like me (as a former news hack. I can scrawl a shopping list in shorthand). But for Younger generations, even typing is in decline, with studies having shown a decline in touch-typing proficiency due to the shift towards touchscreen devices, voice-controlled interfaces and AI. One indie dev was concerned enough to start making a game to help his kids learn to type. It quickly took on a life of its own (and may have created a genre of its own too).

#typewriters are hard because I'm so used to editing as I write... I end up rambling and losing ideas and then tacking them on in odd places.

It's made me go back to the "archaic" concepts of—gasp!—outlines and multiple drafts.

It's so much slower, but I think I'll become a much better writer if I stick with it.

un article sur la façon dont Pyrefly gère certaines contraintes de typage : pyrefly.org/blog/type-narrowin.

Ce concept avait été présenté par Florian Strzelecki lors de la session #PythonRennes "A kinf of magic!" (youtu.be/T5k616MqHCs?list=PLv7).

I managed to get rid of the stutter by instantiating the scene into a SubViewport and then deleting it after a frame 😅

Also the Steam #Typing Fest 2026 just started, and I'm participating! You can go play the #demo right now!

I've always believe in learning

I continue to take notes the old fashioned way and not by

The debate continues

this do be me in the office

Also added an audio cue for finishing a word, so you can look at the next word whilst finishing the current one, and still know that it got typed correctly!

#gamedev #typing

Anyway, finally got the WPM display to be right-aligned, by providing a width...

Also found the ShaderMaterial and added a subtle starry background with some twinkling stars 🌟

#screenshotsaturday #typing

Being able to draw_line and draw_string on a Node is nice, managed to throw together a better end screen with a line chart of your #typing WPM over time!

#indiedev

WOW! Sound effects do so much 😲
Also splitting the Line2D into a bunch of pieces and yeeting them away as an explosion effect!

#gamedev #typing

Quick WPM display, layout anchor stuff is weird so just hard-coded position for now lol, who needs to play in any other resolution!

WPM = CPS * 60 / 6
Sources say "average word length" is 5 but I mostly have longer words so I guess 6 should work?

#typing #asteroid

Using #Godot Tweens to get the asteroids to move on their own, without having to maintain code to manually update all the asteroids' positions, for the low cost of not being able to adjust the motion later \o/

#indiedev #typing

So @timbeaudet challenged his viewers to make an Asteroid-like game, and I needed a reason to try #Godot out more. We sometimes play typeracers on his stream so I decided to give making a typing game a go!

So, playing around with this new split keyboard ( eu.perixx.com/products/periboa ), and I'm loving it so far.
There was a problem with the connection between the keyboard and the computer cutting out - it turns out that it wasn't getting a good enough signal plugged into the back of my tower, so there were all manner of un-commanded inputs, or sometimes none, but moving the dongle to the front solved this.
Now, any garbage is caused my by futile attempts at trying to type.
So, now I'm trying out various ways of raising it.
Having the whole thing flat doesn't work for me, I find the best results involve having a slight upwards tilt from front to back.
A larger tilt uppppppwards just feels silly, so i'm not doing that.
So, I've tried a slight upward tilt towards the middle - that is my 2nd favourite position, trying a slightly higher tilt as I write this, and ... no, not feeling it.
I can do it, but the keys on the periphery just fall too far away.
There are 2 higher tilt angles, and that is just... wrong.
A vertical mouse makes some kind of sense, but a vertical keyboard - not so much.
But yeah, I'm loving it.
I'm really glad I've been re-training myself in hopw to type - I used to cover about 3/4 of the keyboard with my right hand, now it is precisely 50/50, and I can now use the left shift key with the keys in the middle, something that I couldn't do a month ago.
I know some people will be wondering why I went for this instead of a more expensive model, and the reason is simple - I wanted to try a spl it out without spending far more than I can afford, now I know I like it, and so I might be able to justify the cost in around 18 months.
But for now, this is enough for me.
Right, now to put it back to a lower tilt...

#typing #game #reversetype #gõ_văn_bản #trò_chơi #thử_thách #brain_game #SideProject
