Loved the idea of these filebased FOSS utilities. (Can be synced with Syncthing or similar services.)

Honestly, “serverless” is so, so, disappointing. Want to check something way more cool? Go cc @remotestorage_@twitter.com

@tixie then it is an #unhosted app ;) unhosted.org/

It would be so cool to have remotestorage.js be able to use webdav (and so Nextcloud)

@bram I'm also curious of knowing how different is it from . Which exists since a long time now and has a few implementations. unhosted.org/

@trwnh @valerauko I see it more like a more narrow manifestation of the #unhosted concept.

SSO is a pretty fuzzy term, but it's usually used more with corporate systems that trust each other and just need authentication, not authorization.

But yeah, if the same organization hosts the backend and the frontends, and through some mechanism allow you to log in only once, that'd by definition be SSO.

Speaking of #unhosted #WASM apps, there's an open source framework called Oryol that lets you compile apps written in mildly restricted C++ to basically anything, including web and mobile. I was able to port a Lua to it with very little effort since I didn't want any I/O. Documentation isn't great but I've found the developer very responsive to questions.

@neil I'm not familiar with indieauth specifically (but I will check it out, thanks for the link!).

I've seen something akin to it when I was working on #unhosted application designs. Personally I really like the approach but there's a steep technical barrier for most folks to setup & maintain something like that on their own.

That said I could see providing that as another auth option via the co-op (I started with OpenID Connect only because you have to start somewhere :) )

One of the big things I'm taking-away so far reading the platform #co-op book is that we really need a standards-based reputation/identity system.

I remember reading some protocol-level work on this a few years back when I was getting into #unhosted architectures.

Clearly something that demands a decentralized approach.

Oh, and the thing that pisses me off about apps?

Sure, you can clone their Github repos and build them. But you can never, ever get RemoteStorage associated with any of your shit, it's their website or fuck you.

And then there's the matter of RemoteStorage servers that haven't been updated in literally years...

Fuck it.

@ocdtrekkie @jbbdude

Yes.. I'm aware of in general, and 5apps/remoteStorage in particular (I made PoC fork for SAFE) but they use existing net architecture.

SAFEnetwork aims for security, privacy & uncensored access s from the bottom up. No servers, decentralised e2e secure protocol including DNS etc

"We now support serverless applications! Check out our Github repository of examples!"

"Great. So, these are like applications?"

"No! Just run your serverless code on our servers!"

"wut"

I also feel that #serverless is appropriating luster from #unhosted, but the latter is about user freedom, the former about dev convenience.
