Pierre Du Moulin, French Huguenot, says alms are rooted in love of God. Since God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7), sowing with resentment reaps grief from the Lord. One cannot reap joyfully in heaven, if one demonstrated no love to God upon earth. Unwilling giving of alms loses its rewards and is evidence of wanting no pardon.

Is much of modern conservatism about fostering resentment at requests for relief?

How can you sow with joy?
