"Professor Michael A_____: I have here in my hand a report signed by several of your peers (and he said peers with a certain contempt) informing me that you are maintaining a relationship of intimacy with a student of this university, and asking for disciplinary action to be taken against you.

What do you have to say to this Council about this? "

“It is true, excellent Lord Rector,” I replied.

The man’s face was a mask of amazement.

"But there is a very simple explanation for it, that my peers (and I said peers with undeniable contempt) seemingly did not find - or, probably did not even seek.

Allow me, Your Excellency, to ask the head of the administrative services to clarify this Council on the subject," I continued.

“Certainly”, he replied.

“According to the process of Professor Michael A_____, which I bring with me, he contracted marriage with the student Marianne S_______ on the twenty-eighth of the past month of July. Attached to the process is the marriage certificate proving this fact.”

I’d like to have been allowed to take a photo of the faces of ‘my peers’ at that time. The expression “face of a fool” would not make them complete justice.

But there were three smiling faces. The rector’s, who seemed to be very amused, the one of the head of the administrative services, modestly, and mine, of course.

“Thank you very much for coming,” said the rector, dismissing the head of the administrative services.

“This meeting is closed. I am sorry for the time we all lost with this,” and with this he meant to say that he was upset for the time the authors of the initiative had made him lose.

I had never seen ‘my peers’ leave a meeting so fast.

"I heard a female voice behind me, asking, “What’s wrong with her?”

It was the voice of one of two girls coming near.

“I don’t know. I think she’s blocked. She hasn’t surfed in a while.”

“Leave it with us. Send her back on the line.”

I frantically waved to Marianne pointing to the left until she began to paddle behind other surfers to the beginning of the line. She got there more or less at the same time as the other two girls. They stood one on each side of Marianne, sat on the boards and talked. When they arrived at the start point there was also coming a good set of waves.

The front girl pointed back, said something to Marianne and got up on the first wave of the set. Marianne also looked back, let the second wave of the set pass, the girl who was behind her on the line shouted something, and Marianne got up on the third wave. She made a clean surf with two directional changes (cutbacks) to gain more momentum. I approached the place where she was going to get out, close to where the first girl was already.

“She’s a good surfer, she was only a little afraid. You want us to stay with her longer?”

“Yes, please. Thank you very much for your help,” I replied.

Marianne got of the board and gave me a hug, happy as a puppy."
