Hardest hitting sign from the protests this weekend came from a middle school kid, "Trump would deport Jesus." That one hit me hard because... it's true. That's the America we live in right now. #AbolishICE #StandWithImmigrants #WWJD #PastorRant

Remember WWJD? I don't see US Evangelical alleged-Christians using that anymore, probably because Jesus would do the opposite of everything that they support. #Christianity #WWJD #USPol

#Maine - Several people arrested after pray-in outside Sen. #SusanCollins' office in #PortlandME

Police said they charged nine people with criminal trespass after they refused to leave and "asked to be arrested"

by Adam Bartow, Updated: 5:54 PM EST Jan 27, 2026

Excerpt: "Police say there were about 50 people protesting and the group was told people would be charged if they did not leave. Police said after several warnings, most people left, but nine stayed 'and asked to be arrested.'

"The First Parish Congregational Church of #GorhamME shared on Facebook, calling it faithful action with 'a large group of #FaithLeaders and people of faith and #conscience, demanding that she use her power to end funding to #ICE and put an end to their campaign of #terror. If you’re on Facebook, please follow #FirstParishCongregationalChurch of Gorham and share widely to amplify this action.'

"Local faith leaders released a statement Tuesday afternoon calling it a #PrayIn.

" 'Masked federal agents using their anger as a tool, causing harm in already vulnerable communities, is the opposite of loving our neighbor,' said Rev. Sara Bartlett, Pastor at Second Congregational Church (#UCC) in #NorwayME.

"The list of people arrested includes the #pastors at #FirstParishCongregationalChurch in Portland, First Parish Congregational Church of Gorham, #BracketMemorialChurch on #PeaksIsland and the #CongregationalChurch in #CumberlandME."

With the latest killings in Minnesota, I've seen enough. It's time for all of America to stand together and make our voices heard as one. Here's mine!

This is never acceptable even to the worst criminal (which I seriously doubt this person is even close to being) How have we lost our humanity and ability to relate to others as people? My heart breaks for all those in fear for their safety right now #LoveThyNeighbor #WWJD

Theodor Cuyler, a Dutch Reformed pastor in NY, pokes Christian businesspeople with awkward questions: would you actually want Jesus auditing your accounts? When you squeeze the last cent from a desperate debtor, or profit from vice, are you really doing it “for His glory”?

Cuyler’s point is that legality often masks cruelty. One wonders how welcome that thought would be in respectable churches now. So—would you let Christ see your ledger, and accept older standards of conduct?

Accompanying text quotes The Cedar Christian, where Cuyler challenges Christian businesspeople to ask whether they would let Christ audit their ledgers and whether harsh or exploitative dealings honor their faith.

John Trapp, an Anglican Bible commentator, read Proverbs 22:9 as a call to generous, willing giving. The truly bountiful, he said, give not just goods but themselves to the hungry. Isaiah 58 confirms that God notices such mercy. This isn’t prosperity hype; it’s moral formation. Trapp’s question still presses: what would make generosity cheerful rather than forced?

Portrait of John Trapp (1601–1669), an Anglican Bible commentator, reproduced from an old book. The image includes a quotation on Proverbs teaching that a cheerful, generous giver is blessed because he gives not only material goods but his whole self to those who are hungry, echoing themes from Isaiah 58.

James Hamilton was a Presbyterian minister in Scotland. Here he preaches on mercifulness. He encourages the listener to be a Moses: speak up for the weaponless. For a neighbor who cannot get their rights under the tangled system of English law, which is prone to withhold the rights of the widow and fatherless.

How can we do this today? Any cases in the news of people being denied a right, made orphans on the spot?

Here is clear, accessible ALT text appropriate for a black-and-white portrait with overlaid quotation: Black-and-white portrait of James Hamilton (1814–1867), a 19th-century Christian writer and preacher. The image includes a quotation urging believers to defend the weak and unprotected, criticizing how complex and intimidating legal systems can be used to deny justice to widows and the fatherless.

Good point, @SearingTruth ! I don't have a problem with those who believe in the tenets of the real #Jesus (as mentioned in the #GnosticGospels ). I do have a problem with ORGANIZED RELIGION WHO ARE FOCUSED ON MONEY co-opting the real message of #TheSoter (#Healer)!

@crazyeddie So, I just re-translated Matthew 7:23 from the original #KoineGreek. I thought it would be of interest to you... (I have a bachelor's degree in Ancient Greek language, and have translated quite a few passages from the New Testament). My translations are a bit literal, but they have also given me insight into the author's original intent...

The "them" in this passage refers to the ones mentioned in line 22.

"And then I will express the opinion to them that I never knew you: Depart away from me, you who practice lawlessness in my name!"

I see why Weiss wanted to pull this -- the conditions are as horrific as we feared This is NOT who we are as Americans We're paying for another country to torture people

Anyone, especially those claiming to be Christian, should be horrified and demanding a policy change now

If anyone is celebrating Christmas this week, they really need to ask themselves What Would Jesus Do? and what did Jesus mean when he said #LoveThyNeighbor #WWJD #60Minutes mstdn.social/@PamelaBarroway/1

Thomas Houston, Reformed Presbyterian, effectively asks, WWJD? Christ showed an interest in the sufferings of the body, the evils of the outward condition, the moral diseases, and the immortal hopes and destinies of the soul.

Would some folks have a problem with one or more items on this list? Would this full list be on most preacher’s guidelines for “devotedness”?

How can you follow in the steps of Christ?

THOMAS HOUSTON (1803-1882) YOUTHFUL DEVOTEDNESS "He [Jesus] has left us an example that we should follow his steps. In the life and character of Christ is the pure perfect model of benevolence and philanthropy which, while it displays the heart of God towards sinful, miserable human beings, embraces in its expansive regards man's most important interests, the sufferings of his body, the evils of his outward condition, the moral diseases and wants of his soul, and his immortal hopes and destinies. What a lovely copy to transcribe!"
