The image depicts a wide, panoramic view of an ancient city with dense clusters of buildings spread across the landscape. The foreground is dominated by barren fields and patches of vegetation on undulating terrain that appears arid or semi-arid.

In the mid-ground, various religious structures are visible: prominent among them is a large white-domed building which stands out due to its size compared to other surrounding architecture. Its structure suggests it could be an important cultural or historical site, possibly related to major religions given such domes' common symbolic association with sacred spaces in Islamic and Christian faiths.

Additionally, there are smaller religious structures, including one that resembles a traditional Eastern Orthodox church with distinctive onion-shaped cupolas, indicating the presence of diverse religious communities.

The background reveals more densely packed buildings, hinting at an urban sprawl extending towards the horizon under a clear sky. The overall impression is that of a historically rich and culturally complex cityscape, likely Jerusalem given the historical context provided by "Jerusalem from Bethany Road between 1948 and 1958."

The image depicts a richly decorated religious shrine, featuring intricate patterns and ornate calligraphy. The dominant colors are golds, blues, greens, and purples with embossed textures that suggest the use of metal leaf or similar materials for embellishment.

At the top center hangs a rectangular banner in white fabric adorned with Arabic script, possibly indicating its sacred significance. Below this, on what appears to be an altar-like platform, there are two small golden-colored bowls supported by slender stands, alongside another item reflecting light which could suggest it is made of metal or glass.

The background showcases the shrine's intricate designs: green and purple chevron patterns that frame a central field with Arabic calligraphy in gold hues. The script likely contains verses from the Quran or other religious texts, serving as blessings or prayers for those who visit.

To the left side on the ground lies an object partially obscured by another layer of fabric; its details are not clear due to this partial obstruction and angle at which it's presented.

Below all these items is a patterned rug with floral motifs in muted colors like pinkish-purple, beige, green. The lower portion also reveals more draped fabrics or garments contributing to the overall sacred ambiance of the scene.

This photograph was likely taken during an exploration related to biblical sites, as suggested by references such as 'Ro [...]

A Christian praying about a trivial yet urgent physical need demonstrates a complete reliance on God's sovereignty over every detail of life, fulfilling the command to be “anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God” (Philippians 4:6 NKJV).

Johannes Gerhard, # Lutheran Scholastic, says you can’t take it with you, except, that given to the poor. Do you refuse to give your riches, when Christ refused not to give his life? That which you don’t give to the poor, another shall have.

Some of these may be cringy to modern sensibilities. But do some relish in hellfire and brimstone when it’s about sexual sins, but become squeamish at telling people what to do with their money?

How can you flee from covetousness?

JOHANN GERHARD (1582-1637) Meditation XXXV: Of fleeing from covetousness. "Think upon these things, O devout soul, and as much as thou canst flee from covetousness. Thou shalt carry to judgement none of thy riches, but those which thou hast given to the poor. Dost thou refuse to give thy temporal and fading riches to the poor, for whom Christ refused not to give his life? Give unto the poor that thou mayest give unto thy self; That which thou dost not give unto the poor, another shall have."

Monastic Martyr and Confessor Stephen the New- 28 November

🎶troparion🎶

Trained in asceticism on the mountain,
with the weapon of the Cross you destroyed the spiritual assaults of the hostile powers, all-blessed one;
Again you bravely prepared for combat
and slew Copronymus with the sword of faith;
for both struggles you have been crowned by God, monk-martyr Stephen of eternal memory.

Watched a seminar yesterday that still has me frustrated. Some Christians believe that anything thought up by non Christians must be wholly rejected because their fallen nature means that their ideas will have falsehoods attached to them. Taking one part of their idea and leaving the rest can’t be done, they say, because it’s all interconnected.

This is just silly, holier-than-thou thinking.

Yes, their fallen nature means that some bad ideas will be wrapped up in their good ideas, but the same is true for the Christian. We’re not perfected yet, sin still pervades our thinking too. To say their idea must be rejected in whole because of their fallen nature would necessitate that all ideas be rejected in whole because of the originator having a fallen nature. It makes no sense.

We must always find the good, dust off the chaff, and move forward.

The image depicts a serene and picturesque scene of an ancient architectural complex, possibly from the Middle Eastern region. It features a prominent white stone church with distinctive religious iconography, including crosses on its facade and windows adorned with golden embellishments that suggest Christian influence.

Surrounding this central structure are remnants of historical buildings and fortifications in various states of ruin or preservation. To the right stands an imposing dome-covered tower, possibly part of another mosque or a minaret, indicating Islamic presence nearby. The landscape is dotted with sparse trees and shrubs, enhancing the arid ambiance typical of desert regions.

The overall composition conveys a sense of historical continuity amidst natural beauty, suggesting that this location has witnessed centuries of cultural exchange and religious interaction.

@jacobin

When a shithead like Nick Fuentes is your hero, you know which side of good and evil you are on.

The only solutions are is to build on that evilness or decide to be good and shed any traces of Nick Fuentes from your worldview.

That's free will, and you probably believe your god gave you that choice, right? Maybe not. But if you're a #Christian, you know the right thing to do. You've got to #Do etter, #Christians, or stop referring yourself as such.

A modern worship service that neglects Gospel music for mere "fun" risks theological shallowness, failing the biblical mandate to “let the word of Christ dwell in you richly... teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16 NKJV).

James Drummond, Congregational minister, says a community may be marked by a philanthropic spirit, even apart from love for Christ. But for it to endure of of the limelight, it is born of the Holy Spirit, nurtured by Christ.

I don’t think that Drummond’s words here would merely throw guilt upon the exhausted person that they weren’t sufficiently in Christ. But how else can we explain the endurance for some movements in the church for justice?

Who can you speak up for today?

JAMES DRUMMOND (1815-1861) CONSTRAINING POWER OF LOVE TO CHRIST "There may grow up in any community, a philanthropy truculent and fierce, apart from Christ and love for Him; but the philanthropy that is to abide — that is to reach through life - surmount obstacles — be patient, firm, consistent, - working down out of sight of men — sounding no trumpet before it — having no speech and no language, like the stars, and like them gilding some dark spot, - such a philanthropy is born of the Spirit, and is nurtured by the spirit of Christ."
