I’ve been looking at Micah 6:8 for awhile now and have been surprised by a few things:

1) In the phrase “Love mercy,” “‘mercy” is הסד (hesed). Hesed is the word we most often translate as “loving kindness” or some would say godly love. So this phrase could be translated as “love love.” Which is just a funny thing in English.

2) Mercy is a legitimate translation of hesed, and using it that way here makes a strong connection between seeking the benefit of others and actively helping them overcome the hardships, misfortunes, and injustices they face.

3) The phrase “walk humbly” does not mean to walk in a manner consistent with your position or to walk in a manner that acknowledges your lowliness. The word “humbly” here is not the normal word we translate as humble. It instead has a meaning of “circumspectly.” As in, we should walk in a manner that thinks about the consequences of both our actions and inactions. How do they affect others, honor God, and adhere to the first two commands to do justice (right wrongs) and love mercy?
