While French consumers might not have recognised that the label for "Mascara" (see above) showed a moment of prayer, other brands chose to include unmistakable markers of Islam. This label for "Le Minaret", for example, shows - prominently in name & image - a minaret.

On the topic of weirdly sacrilegious wine labels: There are even some wine labels that seem to show praying Muslim men, like this astonishing & rather famous one for "Mascara, Vin d'Algérie" from 1925.

Linocut printmaker Becca Thorne was commissioned by Zimmermann Communications to create two bottle labels 🍷 for the 2023 vintages from Domaine Les Dryades, an organic vineyard in Lavaux, Switzerland.
The illustration for the white wines is based on the plants and insects of the vineyard, while the red shows a dryad - a tree spirit and the vineyard's namesake.
