An #ocean #mining company funded some of most comprehensive scientific studies to date, and peer-reviewed results have begun to emerge.
Researchers from Natural History Museum in London analyzed samples from #seafloor before and after mining test and found number of worms, minute crustaceans and other animals in path of mining vehicle fell 37%. Variety of creatures declined by 32%.

A calm sea rises from the base to the one quarter up point in the photo, where the sea and sky form a crisply defined horizon. The water is only disturbed by small and frequent wavelets of less that half a metre. Near the upper left corner of the photo is the reciently risen sun with multiple sunbeams radiating around the sun's circumference. The humid tropical sky has adopted a golden glow that is reflected in the ocean below. The golden glow is more dominant on the left side of the image with a hint of blue in the water near the lower right corner. Below and to the right of centre and on the horizon is a cargo ship, possibly at anchor. It is viewed in profile, at a distance of perhaps five km, with the bow angled to the left. The location: The South China Sea, to the West of Hong Kong.
