Sepia real photographic postcard showing a man feeding a pair of working horses. Published by E.A. Schwerdtfeger & Co, London, No 2728/2, printed in Berlin. Postally used on 3 November 1912 with single circle Hayling Island cancellation on green halfpenny stamp and sent to Miss Hutchinson, c/o Miss Fox, 29 Lee Park, Blackheath, London SE. Good condition, with very slight corner bumps and light album marks, but small creases to top right and centre right.

Sepia real photographic postcard showing a view of a couple of men with a quartet of horses and a cart collecting wood, either for firewood or fencing or similar. Published by E.A. Schwerdtfeger & Co, London, No 3704/6, printed in Berlin. Postally used on 19 January 1914 with double circle Sevenoaks cancellation on green halfpenny stamp and sent to Miss E. White, Coverdale, South Hill Park, Bromley, Kent. Very good condition, with very slight corner bumps and small light album marks.

Horses are my absolute favorite animals! Check out these two in front of the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. They weren’t exactly in their best mood, you know, because they were at work, pulling wagons with people all around the city.

More years ago than I care to remember, and yet still fresh in my memory, we went to a local ploughing match and country fair.

Two beautiful shire horse making light work of pulling a plough. The furrow behind them and the ploughman is straight. Each horse is bedecked in brasses and they have name plates, reading Arthur and Alfie.A huge twelve ton steam traction engine dominates the scene. In the background is the other engine. Between them, hauled by a steel cable wound round powered drums beneath each engine, is a reversible plough.A vintage tractor is being used to plough a field. The driver operator is leaning back and keeping a careful eye on the plough to ensure his competition effort is as straight and true as he can make it. Scattered in the background, other tractors and drivers are working on their allotted patches of field.
