For anyone still #BloomScrolling in the depths of winter, I came across this Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus) at the side of the road into the village. They usually flower from late April into June/July; today is the 31st of January...

Amid the leaf litter of last year's growing season, an Iris has managed to put out a very small bloom despite it being late January. The strap-like leaves are tattered and burned from the cold, wet winds and road salt.

J’ai enfin sorti de ma PAL la novella Hard Mary de Sofia Samatar publiée dans la collection RéciFs des éditions Argyll en avril 2025. Elle raconte l’arrivée, au sein d’une communauté religieuse proche des Mormons, d’un buste de femme robotisée. Si j’ai apprécié certaines idées, et notamment la mise en abîme sur la création de personnage, je suis globalement passée à côté de cette lecture qui manquait, pour moi, d’aboutissements.

The light of a low sun is diffracted by ice crystals in high, thin cloud, forming a halo. The sun's light is also reflected in the calm, metallic-sheened water of Easdale Bay, starting from Cuan Sound - the channel between the islands of Seil (L) and Luing (R). A small ripple-like wave is breaking on the stony shore at the lower part of the image.

Looking across Easdale Bay from Ellenabeich (on Seil) to Cullipool (on Lying); it is shortly after 12 noon, and the sun is shining through a gossamer veil of alto cirrus cloud. The light reflects from the calm sea, making a golden pathway that connects the two villages. To the right of the reflection is a perch, a fixed channel marker to aid the safe navigation of boats; the channel runs through the gap between the perch and Sgeir Mòr-fir, the rocks just breaking the surface to the right.
