Yay, #AstroPy v7.2 finally allows users to work with world coordinates in the units they want. 😀

Heavy lifting is done by #astropy and #sqlite. Might work on a rust version of this in the future, which actually motivated the come up!

I have a completely crazy idea!

To rewrite #astropy in #swift!

How many GWh electric energy would be save if astronomers do adopt it?

Well, I already started it a while ago. Working on geometric and time conversions AtM. Of course it will be open source.

Whoa.

`nifty-ls` claims to be a faster, more accurate drop-in replacement for #astropy's Lomb-Scargle periodogram.

I've briefly experimented with the Kepler short cadence light curve for the enigmatic δ Sct variable HD 187547 (~1M data points) and `nifty-ls` really is ~5-8× faster than the usual `fast` method, for the price of one minimal-dependency import and one keyword argument. 🚀

Plus the authors show it's more accurate, too! 🎯

Figure 1 of Garrison et al's paper announcing the Python package nifty-ls, showing that nifty-ls is significantly faster than Astropy's current method called fast.

Today I'm celebrating my first can-of-worms bug (a bug that’s discovered while fixing another bug) in #astropy ! 🎉

It’s a bit paradoxical: these situations are not exactly pleasant to work through, but I find that it’s actually a signal of extreme #codequality that it’s only happening *now*, after two months on the job just tracking #bugs down ! 🪲
