Nothing like having to tell your tuner to rescan because #ATSC tuners are too smart to just lock onto anything and show whatever you got, but too stupid to figure out where the channels are on the fly...
And #ATSC3 aka #NextGenTV is 100% horseshit and I'm kinda glad to see the viewing public just straight up reject it and the DRM that comes with it.

Broadcast Positioning System (BPS) works by adding an #ATSC frame to output, and this will usually provide timing accuracy to 100ns, which is good but not quite as good as GPS (~10ns). However, for BPS positioning, you will need to be in signal range of four transmitters, and even then, accuracy will be in the order of a 100-meter radius.

Trying to find an ATSC tuner/dvr/streamer that does NextGen and works with an indoor antenna.
Tablo seems to make one for ATSC 1.0, allowing you to watch live and recorded content streamed to an app on your local network. Their app seems to be mediocre at best, though, and it’s unlcear if it works with Apple TV (or even iOS).
Anyone have anything like this that they like?
So we're finally moving to drop cable, even though we'll lose our epic channel bundle. Yesterday I paired an hdhomerun with an attic antenna, and now PBS is teaching me to make manischewitz and doing terrible raps about Siracha. I got super lucky and it was almost perfectly aimed on the first pass. (I may have to tweak it for NBC eventually but everything else I expected is working.)
This reminds me of the early Tivo days, when I would find it watching PBS on the weekends. Our electronic monk would record "BBQ University" and still be watching when I got up, so I'd sit down with my coffee and join it.
Once we get the broadcast tuned in, its time to upgrade the downloader arm with some usenet. I might also grab a directional antenna to add Baltimore stations for football season.
(The channel bundle has been evolving since before Verizon figured out this whole cable thing. Tons of freebies, and I think we get 20 channels that aren't even on the modern plans. The thing is, 400 unwatched channels is just as useful as 0 unwatched channels. Why are we paying for them again?)

Content owners are being incredible dicks with ATSC 3.0's DRM. (I know, it's a shock.)
It's bad enough that LG has stopped making ATSC 3 tuners.
If you care about the future of over-the-air television even a little bit, you might watch this and contact the FCC with opinions.
This is pretty outrageous that the FCC is basically selling out antenna broadcast TV.

@lonseidman did you see this one? Note the fourth comment under the article, "The paradigm shift is that prior to ATSC 3.0 broadcast companies couldn’t tell device manufacturers what to do. Now they can because playing DRM protected content requires a private contract between the A3SA and the device manufacturers. We aren’t even allowed to publicly share what is in that contract."

TFW after spending literally months trying different things to get your OTA TV reception perfected, your neighbor begins installing a metal-roofed structure over their back patio.
(Luckily it does not appear to be causing any trouble so far.)
Got an #ATSC 3.0 tuner and fired it up in #SanFrancisco. 3 of the 6 or so stations that are using it are DRM encrypted, rendering them completely useless.
Whatever happened to the airwaves being free?
