RE: mastodon.social/@ispreview/116

As somebody who escaped #VirginMedia for #Brsk, I'm deeply unhappy about this news. Probably won't jump ship immediately but I anticipate rising prices, worse customer support, and more web filtering over the next few years.

I'm just hoping they don't go the whole hog and remove #IPv6 support which Virgin still doesn't have.

Then the next step will be my home server, which just has a single IPv6 address assigned to it by the #Brsk router.

The router provides a single #IPv6 /64 for the LAN, but I know there's a /56 or /48 routed to it. It might support Prefix Delegation, or I might have to look again at replacing the router...

@penguin42 Are you on #Brsk? Seeing a lot of people complaining about this right now, and I can't reach the #Debian wiki currently.

#brsk told me they were hacked today and the crims got our name, surname, email address, contact number and physical address. Numpties.

I signed up with brsk for broadband recently and I’ve been very happy with the service. Installation took half an hour and the service was up and running instantly. Speeds are great and the upload is the same as the download. Prices are great and the reason I signed up.
If you are thinking of signing up you can use this referral code and we both get a £50 shopping voucher. brsk.uk/3XXS

Looks like #Brsk is down in #Manchester and maybe further afield. Big spike at downdetector.co.uk/status/brsk/

Still, I've been with them a couple of years and this is the biggest hiccup I've seen. Plus it's Friday evening and time to go and touch grass.

—THIS IS AN ADD— I just signed up for BRSK 2GB symmetric broadband, actual fiber, which is impressive. If you want to sign up and want to receive an Amazon Voucher for changing to BRSK, please use this link: brsk.uk/UDP7 #BRSK #fiber #UK Always verify links from the internet before you click on any.

Sign up for #Brsk broadband
Hand over mobile number
30 minutes later get a sales call telling me "Brsk are rolling out coverage in our area, would you be interested in broadband"

Nobheads.

(It's also nice to know that #Brsk gives an #IPv6 /48 to each customer, as is proper; the ISP-provided router just farms out a single /64 and I didn't know what was happening at the provider end)

Speaking of, I just noticed that #brsk have asked me to connect my laptop directly to the fibre ONT box, i.e. exposed directly to the Internet rather than behind the router.

It's to diagnose a potential problem with the router, but I would have hoped that they would have asked me to ensure that I had a host firewall enabled first...

@inabox I had a frustrating conversation with #Brsk technical support where I pointed out their router doesn't hand out #IPv6 addresses for DNS servers, so it can't be used for IPv6-only setups without hardcoding the addresses from their website.

I would have thought this would be something they'd want to fix but I couldn't get past the customer support agent to someone who understood the problem :'(

Nice, my #Brsk ISP's #CGNAT #IPv4 address is blacklisted by Spamhaus as I found out trying to test a new domain with #swaks. But delivery over #IPv6 is fine, because that's not shared with others.

Just signed my parents up for gigabit #fibre (both upload and download) in Bradford via #Brsk. They support full #IPv6, static #IPv4, and your own router via #DHCP and DHCPv6 PD/SLAAC. The checkout via Stripe was also wonderfully straight forward. Impressed so far.

I just migrated my #Brsk connection back behind the #Icotera router, and there are some serious UI gotchas with the #IPv6 firewall, posting here for others' information.

The "Use firewall exceptions" checkbox must be ticked for any IPv6 firewalling to occur, even if you have no exceptions listed! Without it, all your LAN devices are totally exposed to the Internet.

And remember to set the netmask as /128 to limit to a single host - if you leave the default /0, or absently copy the /64 from the output of ip addr you will again disable firewalling for your LAN.

I'm nerdy enough to actually look for things that shouldn't work, but I worry about customers who aren't.

In the last two days we’ve had #BRSK and #BT round the doors to tell us how their internet is the best. Yeah. Right.
I read the one star reviews on BRSK, and we dropped BT years ago because of their utterly shoddy internet.
No thanks. #internet #isp #fibre

Whoo, 30 days' cancellation notice has gone in to #VirginMedia. Happy with my #brsk, and now using #VirtuallyLocal to forward our landline number to @hag's mobile.

OK, I'm an idiot. Turns out that if you have a #Debian #Linux router running DHCPv4 clients against two interfaces connected to modems (#Brsk and #Virgin), it'll ignore a new default route if it already has one via another interface.

So it depends which interface comes up first, in my case Virgin.

I expected default multiple routes and using metrics to decide between them :/ Unexpected #Networking problem.

Got my Linux router talking to my new #Brsk FTTP connection over #IPv6 but *not* IPv4.

Guess we'll just go full future-mode and heck off the legacy Internet...

Now looking into IPv6 firewalling etc.

When going for a walk with @bright_helpings , we ran into a door-to-door sales rep for #brsk, a #FTTP #ISP that's setting up in my area. I asked him whether they offered #IPv6, and registered my interest.

Symmetric 100Mbit or 500Mbit fibre for significantly less than I'm currently paying seems like a good deal?
