(2/2🧶)
I am trying to backup not just the app, but all associated data (save progress, configurations, source code, binaries, everything) Data on these apps goes all the way back to 2009 or earlier.
I want this Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (almost 6 years old now) to be my final Android device.
Am I doing this right? Is my data bundled inside the APK/APK+ files? Are they installable (in a virtual machine, sometime in the future)
Android has been one of the 3 major hurdles I still can't cross to degoogle my life (the other 2 being YouTube, and Golang (which seems to be used on so many programs I use) GMAIL is a 4th hurdle, but it is a lot smaller. A lot of the apps are Internet based, and won't run, but I still value their preservation.

macOS, Nextcloud and GTD

My adventures with Emacs and Orgmode failed, and ultimately didn't serve my needs. I started considering proprietary alternatives to pure GNU/GPL solutions for my personal data management. The prospect of switching to proprietary software was daunting, but worked well in this case. Access to calendar, tasks and contact lists works well in a multi-platform, multi-user way.

It's crazy — Facebook joined the Data Transfer Project in July 2018, and the best they can do is have you download your Twitter backup and then upload following.js to Threads to match usernames. www.threads.net/settings/fol... #NewThreads #DataLiberation

Interested in #DigitalPreservation and #archiving? The @muckrock team is looking for volunteers for their #DataLiberation project.

"Since 2022, the Data Liberation Project — a volunteer effort led by data journalist Jeremy Singer-Vine — has used [Freedom of Information Act] laws and web scraping to make a wide range of government data sets public and usable.

Their efforts have helped newsrooms and the public keep an eye on [Transportation Security Administration] complaints, explore data on over 58,000 boating accidents and examine an expansive collection of hazardous material transportation reports."

How to Import Instagram Posts into WordPress: Because I couldn't find any good tutorials when I was working on this, I wrote one! How I liberated my Instagram posts and imported them into my WordPress blog using Apify, ChatGPT, and WP All Import. buff.ly/4gx6H7X #WordPress #DataLiberation

Just spitballing and imagining #WordPress importer tooling that converted your content to Blocks, imported all hotlinked images to the media library, set featured images automatically, and automatically did a replace on your old/new domain...

I recently bought a Kobo Libra 2 ereader to replace my beloved (and dead) Kindle Paperwhite.
After a rough start (wouldn't connect to the WiFi, website is a bit shit) its turning out to be a lovely device.
Now... are there any #dataLiberation tools I should know about. I want access to my stats damn it!

First interesting finding of my #DataLiberation journey, is that the native #WordPress export has no general way to hook into the exported data per post.

You can filter almost every particular piece of data, that gets exported, but a simple do_action is missing in the age-old export_wp() function.

Has in 20 years nobody needed to add additional xml markup to the exported file?

Regarding #wordpress' #dataliberation project... is it only one-way, moving data TO WordPress? Hmm...

I’m super excited to be hosting a #WordPress Hallway Hangout next week - for anyone in the #wp community interested in Data Liberation to come together and discuss ideas, pain points, and help form what the project should look like.

I’d love to see you there:

Reminder for any in the #WordPress ecosystem who works with helping users migrate their content (I’m thinking of hosts/agencies/freelancers) - your input is needed to point the #DataLiberation project in the most impactful direction!

[power concentration on the web] “has segmented the web, with a fight to keep users hooked on one platform to optimise profit through the passive observation of content.” - Tim Berners Lee

Yet another reason to fight the walled gardens and help folks migrate to #WordPress. #dataliberation

“Migrating your site to WordPress or exporting all your content from WordPress should be possible in one click.

It will be an iterative journey to get there, working with the intricacies of different platforms, finding ways to liberate content from walled gardens, and combining them all. "

Here's a page on wordpress.org/data-liberation/ about how you can move your data around more freely.

I moved Mastodon servers to mastodon.social for no particular reason. But the fact you can move your following/followers list is one of the most liberating feelings I've had on social media. Data Liberation is a concept I'm super curious about.
