In this world—with its gods, Māras and Brahmās, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, gods and humans—the Realized One is the vanquisher, the unvanquished, the universal seer, the wielder of power. That’s why he’s called the ‘Realized One’.

Buddhistdoor Quote for Today: Ajahn Suchart Abhijato

Just think that on the day you die, these things [possessions] won’t mean anything to you. They wont be useful at all. But if you share them today, it will lift your spirit, your mind, and your heart higher … — Ajahn Suchart Abhijato

If you think about the second precept—to refrain from taking that which is not freely given—it requires that...

#Buddhism #Dhamma #Theravada #BuddhistWisdom #BuddhistPractice #Dharma

... we be honest in our dealings with the world.
So if we carefully observe the precept of not stealing, we’ll see the tendencies of the mind to want to take things that aren’t ours to take.
We probably wouldn’t see these tendencies if we weren’t being asked to reflect upon them in some way.
Hence the second precept can help us to shine a light on some of the more morally questionable areas of our conduct.

When you grasp form... feeling… perception… choices… consciousness, you’re bound by Māra.

Not grasping, you’re free from the Wicked One.

even so, fruitless are the fair words

Giving Service To Others Makes Us Happier

The Buddha understood the human mind very well, and pointed out that when we give service and support to others, we become happier within ourselves.

When we sit in a quiet forest when there’s no wind, the leaves are still.
When the wind blows, the leaves flutter.

The mind is the same sort of thing as leaves. When it makes contact with an
object, it vibrates in line with its nature.

The less you know of the Dhamma, the
more the mind vibrates. When it feels pleasure, it dies with the pleasure. When it feels pain, it dies with the pain.

...mettā means recognizing otherness, and feeling that it’s okay. We don’t have to make people the same as ourselves, or judge ourselves based on what we think about other people. We don’t have to feel we have to win them over, or feel that they should satisfy our emotional hunger.
