Regular micro-blogging isn't my style these days, I'm more of a long-form writer.
Feel free to check out my #Dreamwidth if you're on there escaping the madness of current social media and bored: https://liminalovertea.dreamwidth.org/

I want to create a Community on #Dreamwidth for #musicians, #soundEngineers, #audioEngineers, #producers, #guitarists, #bassists, #synth players, #drummers, and the like.
What should it be called?
It'll be affiliated with #TheFreaksClub
https://thefreaksclub.dreamwidth.org/
Think of it as being the #LiveJournal based alternative to forums like TalkBass, and @lemmystudio 😜
Not as a replacement, of course. Just as a different format; a home carved out in a different section of the web.
If you're one of the tiny number of people still on Dreamwidth and want to try this, it's an overlay on top of Neutral Good / Evil, and here y'go:
https://solarbird.net/Livejournal/2025-06/coexistence-alpha-v0.85rc1.txt
Please copypasta that into your Custom CSS box, rather than including it as a link. I don't need the extra traffic. Thanks.
Trying to remember all the features. I can tell you the biggest one:
NO
HORIZONTAL
SCROLLING
EVER.
Figuring all that out was actually hard. But it was worth it because _fuck_ horizontal scrolling holy shit. None. NO. Never.
Not even with the navbar.
(Unfortunately, there are pages on the site which ignore custom CSS. Those are unaffected. But they can be ignored if all you're doing is posting/commenting/reading.)
Not on my agenda today: dropping a new version of Coexistence Alpha, CoA being the custom CSS you can install to let you use Dreamwidth coherently on mobile devices as well as desktop.
"Wait," I hear you say, "What? That's impossible," I hear you say.
dreamwidth/livejournal have a whole culture around icons adding meaning to comments and posts ^^ it could be reaction images, fandoms, characters, ships, signaling it's a specific event prompt fill, rp between two different users, or in-jokes and stuff like that. The icon creating community is really big and people can have hundreds of icons saved on their computer just for dw! It's sort of like talking in the tags on tumblr, meme references in AO3 content warning tags, or hashtags on other websites. I mostly read dw/lj on anon and it's pretty interesting. I made a new account recently to post fic myself and apparently you can pick only specific tags for that icon to show up when you post to help convey your meaning, which is neat.
there's even a whole fanlore page on the topic, as well as resources to start making your own icons if you're interested in that
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Icon_(image)
i went on a little adventure through brooklyn to get a color test tattoo. i took a few candid photos along the way. this is one of them. if you want to see the other three, you can find them on my #Dreamwidth journal here
I know you get a limited number of icon slots with a free Dreamwidth account, but if you change your mind about an icon and want to delete it and upload a different one, can you do that, or are the icons you upload "forever"?
I've been paranoid about uploading icons to DW for this reason, so I'd appreciate it if someone would clarify!
#Dreamwidth has some fun new comms starting up! I found a few and highlighted them here: https://tozka.dreamwidth.org/143836.html
Today I will catch up on my correspondence :blobcathearthug:
(aka leave comments on friends' #Dreamwidth journals and respond to comments left on mine)
Hey @jayeless, just stumbled on your blog piece from a year ago;
"I wish there was a federated, ActivityPub-based LiveJournal ... a blog, where I can make occasional friends-only posts (not private or password-protected posts), and take advantage of ActivityPub for authenticating my friends. A Dreamwidth-like distinction between true “friends” and more distant “subscribers” wouldn’t go amiss ..."

Long but educational thread on why it's critical to use different passwords for every site: https://bsky.app/profile/rahaeli.bsky.social/post/3liz5vuje4s2w
(Rahaeli's account of the massive #LiveJournal password breach, and the headaches that caused for #Dreamwidth.)
PSA:
#Dreamwidth doubles as an #RSS reader. No algorithms rearranging or hiding content, it just shows the posts from every account+feed you follow, in the order they were posted.

Anyone other than me trying to import from #livejournal in 2025? All tools seem borked, except #dreamwidth which is apparently in bitrot on install instructions (Ubuntu 16.04?) and also just lands you in another silo.
I'm going back through my old #Dreamwidth posts to add new tags and save important ones to memories, and dang...pre-COVID me was a lot more energetic and could write really good, thoughtful blog posts.
Attention friends! My transition to Akkoma is complete and I will now be using it as my primary means of posting on the Fediverse, though I may still post here occasionally and/or like or boost your posts if your instance or page doesn't federate with blob.cat and/or Akkoma. For the rest of you, this is my new address. Formy blind friends, despite a very small number of aaccessibility issues, I still highly recommend this platform, and in particular, the blob.cat instance if you love cats and friendly people, and wish to avoid politics.
As always, I can also be found on Dreamwidth. I have written many new entries this month, containing some opera and operetta reviews and discussions, classical music, and even a post about some interesting documentaries. For those of you who haven't seen said journal, I have all sorts of different things there. Anyone may read or comment, whether or not he is a member of Dreamwidth.

I wrote a new blog post about how I setup my light novel blog and a backup blog for my dreamwidth!
