@ianturton recently upgraded classic manual trigger type to a modern one with a keyboard. Thinking of starting a collection...

So @adamwiggins left a note in the 📔 book

> Keep up the Ruby-ing!

Heroku and #Ruby go together like foxes and cleverness. Did you know #Heroku was born as a Ruby platform? In the early days, it was only for #Rubyists#Rails and #gems, blocks & foxes, all running wild in the cloud.

So when Adam says “Keep up the Ruby-ing!”—he’s really saying:
Let your gems sparkle, and remember that every Heroku #dyno is just a little fox,
waiting to carry your dreams into the cloud.

Really cool problem I sent today.
It took me a dozen tries to stick the dyno, but the rest was pretty straightforward. This is the kind of problem I only do when I climb with my brother: I need the encouragement and dynos are his thing!

Long time no post... I've been climbing, but very little filming.

Anyway, here's my new project. I've done the rest of the problem, so if I manage to stick the dyno, I can send it.

Walls are up, roof is done and the dyno is unpacked ... There is still a lot to do but I am getting there slowly. Have to take a short break and do some programming. I need to build an application for my wife so she can generate electronic invoices for next year. Gotta love that new bureaucracy reduction law ... Yay...

The outside of my new, but still unfinished workshop inside our big hall. It's surrounded by all kinds of materials and a ladder. The (dark) inside of my new workshop. The red dyno is waiting in the right-hand corner. The walls are still waiting for the finishing touches as well as a door. Since there aren't yet any lamps installed, there's a contrast between the dark workshop on the left and the light hall on the right.

Just a quick progress update. The walls are now skinned and insulation is in. Next up is the roof. I would like to get the roof on and sealed before it really starts getting cold.
I have also ordered a turbo fan to remove the exhaust gases from the dyno-room. The other fan on the pallet is for cooling the bike on the dyno. I still need to get the ducting and fresh-air fans. I will do that when the roof is done.

I don't think I have posted this here yet. Last year we acquired a new dyno. We have not had the time to set it up yet but we are getting to that now. We just ordered a bunch of wood and will begin in the next week or so to start building the dyno room. Good stuff :catjam:

DIY Prony Dyno Properly Displays Power Production

When hackers in the US think of a retailer called Harbor Freight, we usually think of cheap tools, workable but terrible DVM's, zip ties, and tarps. [Jimbo] over at [Robot Cantina] looked at the 212cc "Predator" engine that they sell and thought "I bet I could power my Honda Insight with that." And he did, successfully! How much power did the heavily modified engine make? In the video below the break, [Jimbo] takes us through the process of measuring its output using a home built dyno.

The dyno that [Jimbo] has built is a Prony Dyno, and it's among the oldest and simplest designs available. A torque arm is extended from a disk brake caliper and connects to a force gauge. The engine is ran up to its highest speed, and then he brake is applied to the crankshaft until the engine almost stalls. A tachometer keep track of the RPM, and the force gauge measures the force on the torque arm. Torque is multiplied by RPM and the result is divided by a constant of 5252, and voilà: Horsepower. A computer plots the results across the entire range, and the dyno test is complete.

That only tells part of the story, and the real hack comes when you realize that the dyno stand, the force gauge setup and pretty much everything that can be built at home has been built at home. You'll also enjoy seeing the results of some driving tests between the 212cc engine and its bigger 420cc brother, how even minor changes to the engine affect the horsepower and torque curves, and how that affects the Honda that he calls his "Street legal go cart."

Speaking of unusual power plants, how about plant some hobby sized jet turbines on the back of your Tesla for fun?
