Oh, and for all the complaints about EA software, the Tesla experience was far from error-free.

Aside from various app errors, and sluggish performance, plug & charge failed on two different chargers in two different locations. Had to start from the app, though for the first I gave up and went to a nearby EA.

Also, if using the app to start, the procedure is the opposite to EA. For Tesla, start the session in the app & then plug into the car.

Aside from an annoyingly long delay at Indio, we didn’t do to badly. 13 hours of driving, about an hour charging & an hour delay waiting at Indio. 785 miles covered. Highest power was just 195 kW (at the last charger). Slowest was the Tesla supercharger at Quartzite, but even then it was much better than waiting for the EA one.

Highest power we saw on EA’s “up to” 350kW chargers. Long way short of the 270kW the car can take, and I have seen before. Tesla supercharger session, starting at 6% soc and still only 123 kW. Even if it was a 400V charger, I have the 150 KW optional feature, so would have expected a little closer to that number at least.

So much for 350kW. This is the highest I’ve seen so far in this session. The last one (also claiming up to 350kW) hit 170kW. Electrify America really need to up their game.
