@threetails I think #juicero didn't die from that alone.
It's exceessive #DRM and absurd pricing including artificially shortened livespan of the consumeables as well as the pulic roasting by #Bloomberg AND it's absurdly, extremely, expensive machining that'll make aerospace engineers orgasm amidst it's absurd tightness with like guide pins so precise they are basically airtight...
- This is machine was introduced at $700 MSRP and just by the parts alone must cost at least > €1k just in machining time alone!
OFC like with #GameConsoles up the 7th generation it was desined as "Razor and Blades model" so that the fact that said juice packs are only sold as subscriptions and used DRM was intended to ROI within like a year or two, and with the high price tag of the machine and subscription they propably wanted to release a premium product since the average #WageWorker can't afford to spend $2k+ per year just on fruit juice alone!
- I think that they could've built something better and simpler with like a roller and a flat surface for way less money as a mass product or instead of generating a shitload of plastic to burn away, just build an easy-to-clean, commercial-grade juicer with like self-cleaning tech built in so it's easier for any café or bar to offer freshly pressed juice.
But that doesn't mean one would get like #subscription revenue unless it was a defectively designed product like the Ice Cream Machines at McDonald's USA with #AntiRepairDesign and nonsensical #UI & #UX instead of simple output (like the Ice cream machines in the EU and espechally Germany spit out on their LCDs) saying what's wrong or what the status is....
#LateStageCapitalism and #Enshittification is what juicero embodies, because the core product could've been a success with less #greed and more reasonable price and without DRM bs, because the core idea would make it a very clean, simple and accessible way to make fresh juice as they did in fact just bag up fruit to seeze.
It's just that the Enshittification turned it into a sort-of #SeeFood repitch at best and noone told the Engineers that this machine has to be sold at a reasonable price and with reasonable profit out of the gate, so they violated every rule in the book to make this a good product.
- So not only does it come with an insultingly high price tag and burns #VCmoney faster than the #EvilCorp CTO but unlike the expensive proprietary razor blades like that Gilette stuff they didn't even deliver a good combo result at all.
This was an avoidable trash fire as they never sold the packs cheap in groceries nor the machine at an absurdly cheap price.
