I've heard the claim that #QuantumComputing will be the next #fad in #tech once the #AIBubble bursts completely. The thing about that is that quantum computers seem to actually have broad potential for improvement of how we use computers. So-called "AI" has a very narrow scope of actual usefulness, but billionaires already wanted an excuse to cut the lower rungs off the ladder via automation, so they didn't care how many cracks they left in the façade trying to ram a square peg into a round hole

Daily Mail newspaper article from 5 December 2000 that didn’t age very well (unsurprisingly given the content of the article). Not only did it fail at ageing it failed full stop. It also conflated the Internet with the WWW but they are not the same thing; indeed the WWW is much younger than the Internet and is just one small part of the Internet!
