A towering oak, dressed in her autumn golds, glows in the sunlight of a brilliant October afternoon.

Most autumns come with much expectation and high hopes for those few glorious golden days that the season is loved for. Sadly, most years fall short of the promise … because of rain, wind at the wrong time, or a too dry or too wet summer. But when all the conditions fall into place just right, the results can be breathtaking. The autumn of 2022 was one of those rare jewels … and I was in the right place at the right time to capture the beauty … and have the fun of digitally hand-painting the image in Corel Painter in a soft and glowing impressionistic and expressionistic style.

No sunset to speak of tonight 12/11/23. No clouds and the sun sets so far South West that it's down behind trees before any of the 'pretty stuff'.

The birds that usually migrate to the south have left. The ones coming from the north have not yet arrived. Only the year-round residents are here, like these goldfinches. The trees are changing, but peak color is a week or two away. We had a bumper crop of American goldfinches and house finches this year. Here are some goldfinches, lined up on the edge of the bird bath, while having a drink. The picture is a little soft around the edges because I shot this picture thru the screen door.

The trees are beginning to turn color, with some yellow, orange and red leaves, though most of the trees are still green.
