The upgrade to 64GB of RAM - what I have in my current workstation - is $750. The upgrade of the SSD from 512GB (which is laughably small for a high-end machine) to 8TB is $3,000.

For comparison, here are prices for 64GB DDR5 memory kits. A full 64GB, not just an upgrade from 24 to 64.

There are three kits shown in this picture, with prices of $224, $276, and $285.

So the upgrade price on the Mac is three times the price of actually buying the full amount at retail. This is the Apple Tax in action.

Her hat is the prominent feature of the photo. The base is not too large, maybe 7cm in the brim, a dark felt. But the topping is enormous.

It is a swept-back, pearly white egret plumage that is cascading from the front of the brim to the very back. Undoubtedly, if we could see her from the side the plume would stick out in a nebulous cloud a good quarter of a meter.
