A tale of 2 #Wiltipoll #lambs.

Oswald & Lewis.

Minimum temperature here recently has been hovering around -1° to 0° Celsius.

So it’s a bit concerning that Lewis is rubbing up against trees, the fence, brick walls & trying to lose his #fleece.

Mites maybe?

Advice welcomed.

The other lamb & the #alpacas seem okay…

The lambs this morning.

VERY Noticeable loss of fleece on the back & sides of Lewis.

In this week's blog post I bought two more raw sheep fleeces from Random Farm and I scoured and washed them before storing them away.

@Tatjna gave me permission to include her photos of her sheep I bought fleeces from, Tilda and Biscuit, in my blog post. Such cute photos of the two of them.

Here is Hawk's #fleece. 😍 This is my favorite fleece! It's EPIC! 🥰 It is like a lion's 🦁 mane.

It's a huge fleece, very curly and crimpy, with a long staple, and next-to-skin soft. I just drool everytime I shear Hawk. I think his #wool is MARVELOUS. I could keep taking more and more pics of it; I'm literally obsessed. 😄

We are done #shearing, but I have three more fleeces to skirt. To be continued...

It's fleece washing time. I can't manage a whole one in one go anymore, so I'll be working through sections this week while the sun is out and it's not too hot for me. I'll be smelling of sheep for the next week! I have no idea what sheep this is, gift from friend of a friend. It spins so lovely and is far less work to prep than what I'm used to!

UNCOVERED
Fragments, scrolls ripped &
Shredded, some buried in the
Millennia of mud & waste on
The floor of this one cave,
Uncovered by a shift in the
Earth's crust, & some lost,
Excavated by an accidental
Scientist. Different versions
Of ancient myths, the #fleece
Rescued by a red-haired wild
Queen of warriors who refused
To amputate a part of herself
To conform with the fashion
Men expected of her. Instead,
She buried them in the sea, &
Sailed into immortality.

The #MastoPrompt for Saturday 3 May 2025 is:

#fleece

The poem or story can include the prompt word or be about the prompt word.

@ me, if you like, or just include the #MastoPrompt tag (to allow people to follow or filter their feeds), or keep your work to yourself - all the options are good as long as you're writing.

If you're including an image please do include alt-text if you’re able to.

Looking for this particular fabric, or the name of the type, or any good info on how to purchase 37 yards of it so I never don't have my favorite jacket ever again. It might be ambitious, but recreating it from scratch is the goal in any case. With some additions. :)

ps: I need a surger. :'D

A coat with the tag showing its composition, being 57% cotton 43% polyester. The fabric is grey, a distinct thread raised texture on the outside, fuzz fleece on the inside.

Ha, made a fleece beanie before work just for the heck of it. Noticed I had some scrap from the dog bed. Just eyeballed people's beanies online and built it by eye, no pattern. Maybe should have put ears on it. #sewing #beanie #fleece #diy

Pitching in the Cold ( #HammockCamping )

One advantage of sleeping in a #hammock is it can be very cool in hotter weather. The flip side is it gets cold fast as the temperature drops. This is a big topic so I will just summarize the highlights here:

#SleepingBags give little protection from the cold when compressed by your body weight. This is why you need an insulating #pad when sleeping on the ground. Using a pad in a hammock is possible, but it can be very tricky. I've never gotten it to work myself.

Putting on More Clothing can help. I like to wear a #fleece to bed (since it doesn't compress as much).

I had many cold nights before I invested in a simple #Underquilt. It is basically a blanket shaped like a taco. 😉 The goal is to suspend it under the hammock but not put much weight on it.

Since the part of the sleeping bag that you lie on adds very little, many serious hammock campers use an #Overquilt. These look like mummy-style sleeping bags with the opening in the back! You don't need much of a back if you are using a corresponding underquilt. This also makes them easier to get into! Overquilts generally have a collar that can be closed around your neck, but they do not have hoods, so wear a hat if your head gets cold easily!

If your fly is large enough, you can cut down on exposure to cold winds by wrapping the windward side under the hammock to make a sort of cocoon. This is very easy with a standard diamond-shaped fly.

It's beyond me how people thought they could slosh a quarter-billion dollars around south Minneapolis and environs without attracting attention.

But then, I evidently lack the creative thinking you see in This Modern World.

Dante, way back when, reserved the lowest circles for fraud, if you go in for that kind of literary flourish.

A prosecutor called it "The shame of Minnesota." But look at it this way. They didn't get away with it.

MPR News: 'In the overall fraud case, 70 people including Bock and Said were charged. A little more than half have pleaded guilty. The trial of Bock and Said was the second to follow the sprawling investigation by the FBI, IRS, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service into fraud in the nutrition programs.

'A separate federal jury in June convicted five of seven defendants at a trial that was rocked by allegations of attempted jury bribery.

'"The Feeding Our Future case has come to symbolize the problem of fraud in our state,” [lead prosecutor Joe] Thompson said Wednesday. “It has become the shame of Minnesota. Hopefully today’s verdict will help turn the page on this awful chapter in our state’s history.”'
