Crosswalk

The way back to the car in Secaucus. Pentax 17, Kodak 5222 (Double XX), Beeranol.

A crosswalk has two signs with hands held up telling you not to cross. A parking lot is on the other side of the road.
Hat

One of the Santacon attendees who parked in the same parking lot as us in Secaucus lost their hat. Seems like the inevitable result of what Santacon is all about. Pentax 17, Kodak 5222 (Double-XX), Beeranol (also fitting for a photo about Santacon).

A Santa hat lies on the ground in a parking lot at the foot of a car, license plate M97-VED.
Rooster

The chicken place with the cow on the roof has this rooster at ground level, at least for Christmas. Chroma Click (half frame mode), Ferrania Solaris 400, ECN-2 development.

A statue of a rooster stands in a corner with a toque on his had and a scarf and garland around his neck. He looks like he just pooped out the pumpkin that sits on cinder blocks beneath his ass. A string of Christmas lights dips into the frame at the corner of the building.
Stribs

This is my friend Rob. He wrote a book called Designing for Privacy, and if you make web sites, you should buy it. It’s going to be the standard in the field for how to make web sites that respect their audience. He’s the reason I developed this roll in beer, because every time I see him, we’re at a brewery. Pentax 17, Kodak 5222 (Double-XX), Beeranol.

A man in his 50s with somewhat unruly hair smiles at the camera. He is wearing a collared shirt with jellyfish embroidered on each shoulder.
Transistor

The water tower in front of the old Bell Labs building in Holmdel, New Jersey (where the show Severance is filmed) is in the shape of a transistor. That’s one of the touches with this building that I love. Chroma Click (half frame mode), Ferrania Solaris 400, ECN-2 development.

A water tower stands in a field with trees on either side. There are houses off to the right, and in the distance a large black glass building can be seen.
No Relation

This was just down the street from the brewery we were headed to. Pentax 17, Kodak 5222 (Double-XX), Beeranol.

A single story storefront has a sign over the door that says “No Relation Vintage Shop”. The wall of the store is painted with multiple identical sets of concentric circles.
For Rent

I don’t spend enough time in Matawan to know what this used to be, and I don’t see the future well enough to know what it will be in the future. Right now, it’s For Rent and has brown paper covering its windows. Chroma Click in half frame mode, Kodak 5222 (Double-XX), D-19 high contrast developer.

A white brick building with randomly sized bricks has a storefront with its windows covered from the inside with paper. A sign in the window to the left of the door reads “For Rent, JM Properties, Victoria (indistinct) 347-695-7076”. A second floor with windows is partially visible.
Stickers

So thoughtful of New York City to provide these posts for people to put stickers on. Pentax 17, Kodak 5222 (Double-XX), Beeranol.

Photography is always history, and so is this photo…
The last roll of film of 2025 has delivered its images.

The first photo post of this year also marks the moment when I stopped working professionally for Xmas holidays. And in two days I’ll already be back at it again. From the rehearsal room to the stage, and then on towards a premiere.
But here we’re talking about photographs… I’ve been carrying a Pentax 17 in my pocket for about two years now, and I’m starting to notice that it has its downsides as well. To be honest, I shoot better with an analog SLR or a rangefinder. With the Pentax 17, it always takes me many clicks to get decent results when there’s little light available (such as in rehearsal or theatre spaces). But a larger camera is cumbersome, and it immediately feels, or is perceived, like a photoshoot.
What to shoot as a stagemanager ?

It’s a bit that time of year when we look back on the past year 2025
including what happened here on Pixelfed.

It wasn’t the most important thing that happened in my life in 2025,
but it was certainly exceptional.
Simply cutting the knot and saying, “okay, we’re going to South Korea in the spring.”
A fantastic experience, and of course wonderful to be immersed in a completely different culture, in terms of behaviour, imagery, flavours… basically almost everything.

At some point, I stopped sharing images because I already had a substantial collection.

But in reality, of course, I still have many more analog photos from that trip…

I also spent a year walking around with a Pentax 17 around my neck or close at hand. The little thing had already proven itself in the past as a great party camera. But my favourite party photo of 2025 is definitely this one:
https://pixelfed.social/p/LievenSymaeys/873661050184251923

I even had the photo printed, framed it, and hung it on the wall at my workplace.

But most of all, it was a lot of fun at that party !

But maybe it was all a bit too much – a disposable camera, a Pentax 17, and a glass of wine on the dance floor...

Not at all the first roll of pictures I took with my Pentax 17 anymore...

A person holding a silver camera in their hand. The camera has a classic design with a circular lens and a textured body. In the background, a misty landscape features a path leading towards a sun partially obscured by fog, with trees and a light post on either side. The ground is frosty, hinting at a cold morning. The overall atmosphere is serene and slightly mysterious due to the fog.

An analog double-exposure photograph of the old brick building of a school, overlaid with lots of bright and blurry lines and stripes. The colours are all faded and strange; the sky ranges from an unnaturally deep blue to a faded magenta, and the bright lines from the double exposure have a yellow tint. Through it all, you can see the tall, curved windows and embellished brickwork of the building, and maybe even barely make out some trees and stone stairs in front of the building.
