The current iPod collection and accessories. I recently acquired the black 80 GB Classic on eBay. I’m not sure but I think it’s referred to unofficially as an iPod Classic 5.5. The battery seems fine and it works flawlessly.

Got the larger SD set up with almost 500 songs copied over. I put it back together and put it on shuffle play. It has been running for 13+ hours and still half the battery left. Backlight turns off after 5 seconds.
The one mod I'd like is to replace the 30 pin connector(!) with USB-C.

5th gen iPod resurrection continues. Battery and SD adaptor came in. Installed a 256GB SD and it started up saying it needed to be restored. Hooked to Mac and Finder opened restore dialog, confirm a few steps and off we go! At least I think so, no progress shown on either device. Left overnight and this morning there was a happy ✅ on the iPod (mac said it was still restoring). Unplug, replug, and still needs restore. Tried a couple times before swapping in smaller 4GB SD to hopefully speed things up. Same thing. Found YT video showing extra step of force quitting AMPDeviceDiscoveryAgent process, which worked! More stupid apple tricks authorizing and re-authorizing my music and finally there's music synced to iPod and it's playing!

Well, it looks like it is. Would you believe I can't find headphones with 1/4" jack? All of the ones stuffed in drawers have a lightning connection. 🥹

I ran this on an old #iPod color, of course, but later on an old #Android phone, a #FiiO M3K and today on a #Surfans F20! Honestly it just can't be beat, software wise, for a media player. 🧵1/2
⚠ Be extremely careful using an older #Apple #iPod. If you do, I recommend replacing the battery. While my larger #iPods & original #iPodShuffle have worked after periods of nonuse, my #iPodNanoGen2's battery exploded while charging after 10 years nonuse.
Consider purchasing a modern smartwatch like a #Samsung #GalaxyWatch or #Apple #AppleWatch along with some Bluetooth earbuds. With 16GB storage, modern smartwatches can store about as much music as an older iPod.

For what I can only attribute to my phone guzzling down power even with local-only apps for music and podcasts, I, a terminally-online person that is rarely more than 1m away from a PC or smartphone with a constant Internet connection, and even self-host my own services, am considering... stepping down a notch and move to a more... "analog" world.
Actually, analog is the wrong word. "#Disconnected" might be a better one.
So I'm wondering if I could actually make a switch to something like a Nokia 7110 and an #MP3player.
Weirdly enough, MP3 players these days are apparently either cheap and crappy, or expensive and iffy, or VERY expensive, or expensive Android mini tablets with barely any battery life...
So I just put a bid on a modded 120GB iPod Classic I can slap Rockbox on, hopefully I win it.

Essayer de faire fonctionner un #ipod #nano 3eme génération ,aujourd'hui, relève du parcours du combattant. Même un #macbook sous sequoia est incapable de le reconnaître... J'ai bataillé avec linux qui lui le reconnaît, met à jour les morceaux mais après éjection, l'iPod ne sais pas qu'il est rempli, la bdd est cassée.
La solution : installation d'une machine virtuelle windows 10. Installation d'#itune. Et après 4 h de galères, là ça fonctionne.
