The other day I remembered that there are a lot of juniper berries in the local goshawk forest. As it had snowed recently, I thought the snow-covered juniper branches and berries might look good in a photo. They do, a little bit of color in the winter. Then you find a photogenic branch full of berries, think about the composition for a moment and see a gust of wind blow the snow off the branch before you were able to take the photo. Yay :D

Fortunately there were plenty of other opportunities...

I knew this arrangement was missing something, and by chance found a perfectly matching red candle in my office to stick into the urn. I love everything about how the red of the crabapples and candle meshes with the green of the juniper and background.

After going foraging for sprigs and berries for some upcoming arrangements, I'm resolved to grow a small cluster of my own juniper trees for future years' projects. I've fallen in love with the gorgeous deep greens and blues, and of course some infusions are in my future with all these berries, too!

One of my favorite things about foraging is finding 'the real thing' aka what plastic mass manufactured florals and wreath supplies in craft stores imitate, and getting to smell the piney crush of berries and resin when gathering. My bucket was a full aromatic treat to bring home in itself.
