The impressive remains of Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie, built in the years to 1721 on the site of a castle first recorded in 1229 and later used by Alexander Stewart, 1st Earl of Buchan, better known as the Wolf of Badenoch. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/kin

Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie. The image shows a path leading up the steep side of a large grassy mound. It commences at a gate in the lower centre of the frame and proceeds towards the upper right of the frame. On top of the mound are the extensive stone ruins of the barracks, forming a large square structure with walls connecting larger buildings.

Another 2 day outing with Moray, through one of the south-to-north passes (an old drove route) in the , the Pass from to .

From the highest point we had a quick detour to the Corbett Leathad an Taobhain, which at 912m is only a couple of metres short of Munro height.

- Moray relaxing outside a bothy.
- Leathad an Taobhain summit selfie.
- An adder in the grass.
- Overnight camp spot.

A stone built bothy on a grassy and heathery hillside. Moray the dog is rolling on his back outside.A concrete trig pillar at the top of a rounded hill with short heather vegetation. I am sat with Moray the dog.An adder curled up behind a bit of grass, but keeping an eye on me.Looking across a river in a grassy and heathery glen. My snall tent is pitched the other side, and Moray the dog is stood watching me. Steep hills at the back.

Back to the Monadhliath today near Kingussie - A' Chailleach and Càrn Sgulain. Absolutely baltic, car reading -11 deg C. Snow was a double edged sword today - bit of a slog but made it bearable with views (just about). Munro no. 64 and 65.

Omituista. #Kingussie

Somebody has parked their Swedish #Hägglunds all-terrain vehicle here. #Kingussie en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandvagn

I assume this is the familiar vehicle to many of those who have served in the Swedish or Finnish defence forces.

Product placement. Saved some of the #ScotRail #cookies for today’s walking and climbing. Staying in a cheap hotel in #Kingussie. (The hotels in the more famous (?) Aviemore, close by, were clearly more expensive.)

A shop selling Persian carpets and snow skis is such an obvious combination I can't understand why no-one thought of it before.

Photo taken through a shop window. In the window are two pairs of skis standing nearly vertically, leaning against a carpet (draped over some boxes). Both the skis and the carpets have price tags.

Ruthven Barracks and a stroll up Beinn Bhuidhe. We met some friendly cows, chatted to a hiker from the Netherlands, and took a nap in the grass.

A view of the outside of Ruthven Barracks, perched on a hill.A field of black and dark brown-coloured cows standing in a dry field in front of the barracksThe view from the hill where we took a nap. There's a little ruined cottage close by, and the town of Kingussie lies further behind it. Mountains are in the distance.
