I have a friend that I've been friends with since high school. I like my friend, but he's drinking the AI Kool-Aid.
We went to dinner last January and I told him I didn't want to talk about AI as I hate Generative AI. It's been a year so I guess he's decided he waited long enough.
I use Linux. Because Linus Torvalds used AI to vibe code something recently, my friend has taken that as an opening to talk to me about AI again.
This guy is an American (I think) who lives in Moscow, and speaks fluent Russian.
He either can't speak openly, or this is what it sounds like after drinking two country's worth of Kool Aid.

Also, if the phrase "AI-first" comes out of your executive pie-hole, you've already lost. You drank the Kool-Aid and there's very little hope you'll ever decide to put the users' wants over the advertisers/AI-bundlers/swindlers/what-have-you. [1]
And since the guy they announced as CEO has already been the head of browser for a while now, it's clear when he says "AI-first", he really means it.
I'm torn between Vivaldi, or putting up with Firefox (on a *very* short leash) long enough for Servo to become a usable browser.

AI has brought very little value to, well....anything. It's incredibly damaging to the environment, expensive, and the way it's currently being used isn't respectful of privacy nor does it improve the well-being of peoples' lives. Now it's being shoved into pretty much everything.
The sheer volume of money tech companies are willing to "invest" in it really could solve more imminent social crises.
Had to go down the rabbithole of unpaywalling this article because its just such jackassery. I refuse to be annoyed alone.

I toot to comment on one important aspect of the #APS and the #KoolAid addled ideas about the adoption of #GenAI #SlopMachiine in the APS.
There is a great chasm between the credibility of loyal Australian public servants who go about their daily tasks and the absolute crap dished out by most ot the #SES-ranked ‘contracted staff’ in the most senior positions of the APS.
Treat anything said by an SES with a grain of salt as most of it will be ‘politically motivated’ with no little ‘self interest’ being foremost. It has been so ever since the SES scheme (rort in my book) has been in operation.
While Karen Middleton spins a tale of deja vu about the Treasurer's address to ANU alumni, one sentence that she quoted was a magnet to me:
"... it will take leadership to build a new economy powered by cleaner and cheaper energy and turbocharged by AI."
I shuddered after reading it. Was #JimChalmersMP referring to the #KoolAid driven #LLM #GenAI slop in his speech? I fervently hope not. And if not, he ought to know that AI is nothing new, has been around for decades, helping professionals with highly effective diagnostic tools. And this is why I was arrested by the sentence in the first place... maybe Jim has drunk the koolaid too...
