The Guardian today published an excerpt from Virginia Giuffre's book.
I have a bit of fire in me. When a relative insisted that I serve them a certain food prepared
Fuck, this is hard.
above and beyond what I had already prepped and stored in the fridge, a fire lit in me. That fire was hatred. It broke my emotional ties to that person.
What Virginia Giuffre described of feeling hollowed out on being given certain instructions didn't happen to me in my post-experience situation. However, by that time, I had received medical and therapy support for my chronic health conditions resulting from the abuse that I suffered.
It is too much for me to try to remember how I felt internally when that family decided to keep me without pay. I can say that the abuse that my stepmother meted out to me when I was a child - including using me as a child caregiver - groomed me for what that family did to me.
A child. Being a full-time caregiver to a child.
What you do to children has lasting effects.
Writing posts like this is work - hard work - for me. I really need cough drops, mucous relief, and incense sticks. Be generous.
