"We are devastated to learn of the passing of Samuel Alvarado, who was killed after being hit by a garbage truck driver while biking this morning in Allston. The fatal crash happened at the Cambridge and Hano St intersection.

"Our hearts are with Samuel's loved ones.

"This tragic crash highlights two key dangers that people who bike face: unsafe roadways and large trucks. Safety improvements for this area are long overdue - as are safety improvements for large vehicles that are driven on our streets.

this is what #livablestreets mean to me. as a family, walk out the door for brunch; keep walking and find street furniture; drop by the farmers market and run into friends. AND have zero need for a car.

I often think what criteria I would want in a city I’d like to move to. It would be in this order
1. Walkable
2. Efficient tram/light rail/ train service
3. Safe bike infrastructure

The harder part for me to find include:
4. Diversity (racial and lifestyle)
5. Safety
6. English speaking or can easily converse in English
