In the middle of plants, a bee is catching the light. You can see its golden hair on the side of its Gaster on top of the thorax.

Moss Landscape, Seattle

Yesterday was a rare break of winter sun in Seattle. I went for a walk along the Queen Anne Boulevard promenade and spotted these tiny undulating hills of moss atop the Wilcox Walls. A massive retaining structure built in 1916 on the west side of the hill, the Walls overlook the Salish Sea and the Olympic Mountains. Each winter they are covered by a tiny landscape that resembles the distant rainforest.
