TWO of my #handpainted #maps have been #published in this #geography text #book from HardieGrant in Australia. 👍 😍

I wish I’d had such a fun & well designed book when I was at school a million years ago.

Day 7 #SciArtSeptember prompt is boreal, a word I associate with evergreen forests, so I thought I’d share my #linocut of New Brunswick, a province I have visited many times. Its provincial bird, the black-capped chickadee & its tree, the balsam fir cover the hand-carved map of New Brunswick.

The acrobatic, but rather tame chickadee, with its distinctive black cap, has long been one of my favorites. 🧵1/

Day 6 #SciArtSeptember prompt is prairie. I thought I would share a throwback: My print of Manitoba with its provincial animal the bison and flower the prairie crocus (Anemone patens) in this linocut. The block was inked ‘à la poupée’ (with different colours, pale violet, umber and brown, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.

without the pollinator gardens and solar power and with much heavier vehicle use. This would be a much hotter and harsher place, where we might be forced to replace our lost pollinators with human-made pollination drones. There are things within our power we can do to avoid such a future.

Thinking about possible futures for pollinators for #ManufacturedEcosystems I’ve imagined a future where habitat restoration and pollinator gardens are embraced, placed everywhere they can be in an urban environment including residential front and backyards and on green roofs combined with a move to climate friendly energy sources like these rooftop solar panels. This multimedia with linocut map shows many trees, 🧵

#linocut #printmaking #multimedia #sciart #pollination #gardens #mapArt

As described this is my 15” x 15” multimedia artwork depicting an urban neighbourhood as a map showing semi-detached homes, roads, one apartment building, vehicles and vegetation from above. On this utopian imagined future all front, back and side yards are green with flowers, pollinator gardens and many trees. The rooftops all have pollinator gardens and/or solar panels. A single car and two bicyclists with bike trailers are on the road. Road and buildings are simply depicted in grey with yellow line.

Today is also International Crow and Raven Appreciation Day and I for one, appreciate the corvids. They are extraordinarily intelligent birds! Here is my murder of crows, part of my #termsOfVenery series of collective nouns for animals series of prints.

The raven is the official bird of the Yukon, in my print with the official flora, fireweed.

Lastly my crow print, inspired by a photo my husband took.
