Aber jeder einzelne Request wird als fettes JSON auch gegen #Loki und eben diesen Garage Storage geloggt, also isses deutlich mehr Last, aber bisher ist alles geschmeidig :)

Perhaps this will be helpful for other administrators who are looking for something new because the Minio S3 server is no longer being maintained.

I pay particular attention to the difficulties I encountered due to the large number of files (which caused problems).

So far, SeaweedFS S3 has been working wonderfully for me!

Nachdem ich meine Minio => SeaweedFS Migration für meine Mastodon Instanz metalhead.club nun im Griff habe, habe ich ein paar Worte dazu in meinen Blog geschrieben.

Vielleicht ist das ja hilfreich für andere Admins, die wegen des nicht mehr gepflegten Minio S3 Servers auf der Suche nach etwas Neuem sind.

Ein besonderes Augenmerk lege ich auf meine Schwierigkeiten wegen der Vielzahl an Dateien (was Probleme verursacht hat).

Bisher funktioniert SeaweedFS S3 bei mir wunderbar!

The #MSTDNDK Mastodon instance just migrated away from Bitnami's #Redis helm chart and container images to #Valkey.

#Bitnami and Redis both seem to be exiting the open source community, which could prevent us from staying current, meaning always running the latest versions of the software components that make up this instance.

We understand the need to monetize software, but see that as an opportunity to add premium paid features, not take away existing ones from open source. Doing so will make your potential future customers look for other solutions. Looking at you, #MinIO, Redis and Bitnami.

Please report any issues you might experience as a result of the move to Valkey. So far it looks peachy.

Die #Garage WebUI ist auch viel einfacher zu konfigurieren und benutzen wie die von #MinIO - manchmal wirds halt auch einfach besser wenn eins gezwungen ist zu wechseln!

#rclone eignet sich ganz wunderbar um #S3 Buckets von #MinIO zu #Garage umzuziehen btw.

Mastodon knallt wohl z.T. derart viele Dateien in S3 Verzeichnisse, dass Tools die Dateien noch nicht einmal auflisten können, ohne dass das S3 Server in ein Timeout läuft.

Übel.

Das ist gerade ein Problem, weil ich den alten Minio-basierten S3 Speicher löschen will. Kann ich aber nur zum Teil, weil an gewissen Stellen einfach ein Timeout passiert beim Listing xD

Jetzt versuche ich, durch S3 Lifecycle Rules aufzuräumen und Dateien automatisch ablaufen zu lassen. Das hätte ich evtl. früher probieren sollen (und liegt ja irgendwie auf der Hand).

Dabei muss dann wohl kein Listing stattfinden und das Problem wäre umgangen. Ich bin gespannt!

Migrated my local storage from #minio to #rustfs.

Found downsides:

- No support for regions yet (does not affect me)
- No support for multiple domains (can't use in-cluster names for adjacent k8s deployments, have to resolve the external domain)
- Weird logging: {"error":"S3Error { code: InvalidBucketName, .. }"},"target":"s3s::ops","filename":"/home/runner/.cargo/registry/src/index.crates.io-1949cf8c6b5b557f/s3s-0.13.0-alpha.2/src/ops/mod.rs","line_number":276,"threadName":"rustfs-worker","threadId":"ThreadId(19)"} is not very useful 🤷‍♂️

Improvements:

- Much faster
- Consumes less RAM

@schenklklopfer Bei #RustFS wäre ich vorsichtig. Wieder ein Projekt mit Contributor License Agreement (CLA), das schlecht über die AGPL redet.

So ging's bei #MinIO auch los.

SeaweedFS macht mir wiederum zu viel, und redet auch inkorrekt schlecht über andere.

Ich persönlich favorisiere daher #Garage.

Sehe ich folgendes richtig:

#SeaweedFS - völlig überladen an Features - ich brauch NUR S3, und nicht den ganzen Rest...
#Garage - klein und schlank, ggf. unsichere Finanzierung?
#RustFS - super klein und schlank - aber noch Alpha?

Das "beste" scheint Garage zu sein?
