#Tokyo was a blast but now I’m off to #Beijing for a #Valkey event.
#Valkey 9.0 Introduces Multi-Database Clustering, Atomic Slot Migration, and Major Performance Gains
https://www.infoq.com/news/2025/11/valkey-9-atomic-migration/
I am so excited to **not** be heading to Las Vegas today for #reInvent.
I have to admit it’s a bit strange to not go after going every year since 2017 (well, 2020 was virtual) but my upcoming travel schedule would have meant 3 weeks of solid travel and that’s… not humane.
If you are going, check out how #Valkey is buying out the Taco Bell Cantina on Tuesday for a giant party 😏

This time next week, I'm getting on a plane to Tokyo then on on to Beijing.
I have like 1 free day in each city and maybe some evenings, otherwise I'm doing #Valkey things at Open Source Summit Japan and Valkey Keyspace Beijing.
I've never been to east Asia. Any tips, highlights, or must-sees?
#Valkey 9.0 is now generally available!
This release brings:
• Atomic slot migrations
• Hash field expiration
• Full support for numbered databases in cluster mode
Valkey 9.0 enables scaling to 2,000 nodes and achieves over 1 billion requests per second!
Find out more: https://bit.ly/4p4Cd16
Not me, however.
I’m working as normal this week and _not_ doing reinvent for the first time in 7 (!!) years.
But on Dec 5th, I’m jetting off to Tokyo for Open Source Summit Japan where I’ll co-presenting with @reconditerose on #Valkey
Then I head over to China for #Valkey Keyspace Beijing.
Then by the time I return (Dec 15) I’ll be done with 2025 for some much needed family time.

in 2018, #Redis Ltd., the company managing Redis development, licensed some modules under a modified Apache 2.0 with a Commons Clause.[26][27]
In 2024, the Redis company switched the licensing for the Redis core code repository from the BSD license to dual #SSPL and proprietary licensing.
Valkey is a drop-in replacement for Redis, so the existing #NixOS Nextcloud module's Redis configuration options can be leveraged

Valkey 9.0 Released with Atomic Slot Migrations
A couple of #Mastodon tweaks I might look into over the next couple of months:
An alternative to our #S3 compatible storage backend, #MinIO. Their licensing and approach to open source it getting weird, and I hear #Garage is better and faster. Also MinIO decided to pull the administrative web interface from the free version, and I think that was a bit of a dick move.
An alternative to #Redis, the super fast in-memory key-value database. They moved away from open source - and back again? Anyway, it seems like a bit of a mess and I hear the completely open source #Valkey is faster. Might be worth looking into.
Anyway, none of this is terribly urgent, but something I'd like to eventually look into.
Redis has issued a security advisory for CVE-2025-49844, a critical (CVSS 10.0) use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability affecting Lua scripting.
This flaw could allow authenticated attackers to execute remote code on older versions of Redis and Valkey with Lua scripting enabled.

I’m at MQ Summit in Berlin today talking about #Valkey messaging.
